Just bought a T2, OS recommendation?
I have been using the PRS plus on my 350, now I have the T2, I can not get the PRS plus for it.
What operating system do you recommend for the T2? Should I stick to the official one or are there better alternatives? |

There is no PRS+ for the T series. If you are trying to add more features/options to the T2,then you bought the wrong Reader. There are other Readers such as Kobo that have the options built in.
There is no enhancement for the T series like PRS+. |

For a 6" I would have recommended a Kobo Aura HD (if you can find one) or a Kobo Aura Edition 2. If you want a larger screen than 6", a 6.8" is a good size. Kobo also make the Aura H2O that's 6.8" I've used all of the above mentioned Sony Readers.I would not go with a Reader that doesn't support hyphenation. Now that I have one that hyphenates, it's so much nicer than the gaps.
Yes, there are other brands of Readers that that good options built in or you add in via other reading apps, but they are not all that easy to get in the US. In the US, the easiest readers to get are Kindle, Kobo, and B&N. What features of PRS+ do you really like other than the games? Last edited by JSWolf; 01-08-2017 at 07:32 PM. |

Sorry, I will NOT consider anything other than Sony Readers.
I have used the Aura, everything about it makes it far inferior to the Sony, including 1. button less 2. weird back 3. plastic 4. no stylus 5. bad software. Anyways. I think I'll hunt for a 650 or 950 instead. |

Depending on the FW version, you can root the T2 to open Android. Not sure I'd bother. It works okay but there isn't much room for apps, and re-partitioning memory to make space can brick the device. If you wanted to hack, the old Nook ST is the best choice. I use and love both. The Nook is fun.

I bought a used T2 through eBay a year ago after using PRS-650 for some years. I bought the T2 mainly to get Wifi and browsing capabilities. As I upgraded the firmware to the latest version the first minutes after receiving it, I'm not able to root it any more.
Btw, PM me if you are interested in buying my 650 |

Quote:
2. The back doesn't matter as you should be using any Reader in a case. 3. The T series is plastic. So why would it matter about Kobo being plastic? 4. Kobo doesn't come with a stylus, but you can buy a stylus. 5. The software is not bad. In fact, it's better than Sony's software. You get more options, more fonts, more font sizes and more.' Another thing you get with Kobo is a better screen as Kobo uses a Carta screen. So you get better contrast. Also, you get a very nice front light for reading in low or no light situations. I do have the T1 light cover and a good front light is much better. The front light is better for reading in bed when someone next to you is sleeping. One more thing, because Kobo is using a newer version ADE, you get better typesetting. So from my experience, there's nothing I can think of to recommend a Sony Reader. If you buy a 650, plan to buy a battery and replace it yourself. The 650 is old enough that chances are the battery is either needing replacement or soon will be needing replacing. Then there is the Kindle and B&N. Neither comes close to PRS+ in terms of options. |

I read on my Sony T2 or T3 every single day and the page turn buttons are quite well located. I never have an issue with them and they show no signs of wearing out. I had the covering flaking off the page turn buttons on my 650, I used it so much.
I just got a Nook Simple Touch with Glowlight. Now THOSE page turn buttons are not very well located at all. If you're in the US and looking for a Sony reader, try Shopgoodwill.com. You can find good deals on there although be sure you know what you're buying, there are no returns. |
