Hi,
I uploaded .doc to smashworld, and got the warning while validating the .epub ERROR toc.ncx 15 43 Error while parsing file 'different playOrder values for navPoint/navTarget/pageTarget that refer to same target'. ERROR toc.ncx 15 265 Error while parsing file 'different playOrder values for navPoint/navTarget/pageTarget that refer to same target'. And here is part of the codes. <navPoint id="navPoint-1" playOrder="1"><navLabel><text>Shan Hai Legend Vol.1, [Part 1of2]</text></navLabel><content src="tmp_6411376b54da03b62e4b917cdf6cdb3c_UUR8zc.c h.fixed.fc.tidied.stylehacked.xfixed.html"/></navPoint><navPoint id="navPoint-2" playOrder="2"><navLabel><text>Midpoint</text></navLabel><content src="tmp_6411376b54da03b62e4b917cdf6cdb3c_UUR8zc.c h.fixed.fc.tidied.stylehacked.xfixed.html"/></navPoint></navMap> I have no idea..how it can be fixed. Can anybody help me out? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

AFAIK, you can also upload valid epubs to Smashwords. The easiest way to fix these TOC errors would be to regenerate the TOC in Sigil or Calibre Editor.
Once the TOC was regenerated the epub should pass epubcheck. |

I finish all (well, most) of my books in Word, first 2000, more recently 2007. I find that entrusting a Word doc (or *.docx) to the Smashwords Meatgrinder or any other auto-conversion is an invitation to messy html and very often an unsatisfactory book. What I would do is run that *.doc file through Word2CleanHtml dot com online, open the resulting html file in Sigil, and tweak it there as needed. Takes some learning, but easiest in the long term. You can get the latest version at https://github.com/Sigil-Ebook/Sigil/releases.
Toxaris also has a plug-in for recent versions of Word (I think it's 2003 onward). Do a search on the Sigil forum for that. Really, Sigil is the best thing that ever happened to technically challenged self-publishers. |

Toxaris' Word add in can be found here ==>> e-Book Tools - a Word add-in - as well as conversion it has many other very useful and in some cases unique functions.
There is also an Import plugin for Sigil that does a very good job on 'well formed' DOCX ==>> [Plugin] DOCXImport. It supports mapping of the styles in the applied Word Template to the styles in a user defined CSS. Well worth a look. BR Last edited by BetterRed; 11-19-2016 at 03:37 PM. |

<lastmark>, <bookmark> or <hilite> If so, simply re-generating the NCX TOC with Sigil should remove them, because Sigil doesn't support <bookmarkSet>. However, this error might also be caused by undefined named entities, e.g. &xyz;. Did you use any unusual named entities in these books? |

No bookmarkSet.
But I do see that not every file has triggered the error, just the vast majority. The cover isn't mentioned, nor the title page, nor some of the files that contain only an image and a caption. Ah! Could it be named entities, instead of numerical? Perhaps the simpler thing would be simply to avoid Lulu.... |
