Question Kindle PW3 with frozen, distorted screen and periodically flashing backlight

I pulled my Kindle PW3 (5.6.5, jailbroken, DP75SDI, Wifi+3G, no special offers) out of my bag this afternoon and noticed it was unlocked, with some "smudging" artifacts on the last page I had open. Tapping the screen and pushing the power button yielded no response, indicating that either the device had locked up or the screen had been broken.

I held the power button down to trigger a hard reboot, but when the boot screen appeared it only covered a "shard" across the lower half of the display, with the rest of the screen still stuck on that page. The progress bar slid forward for a while before stopping around a third of the way across.

After waiting five minutes or so, I tried another hard reboot. This time the "shard" just became grainy and distorted, and the backlight started turning on and off periodically (bootlooping?). Nothing else I've done has had any effect here. I've tried holding the power button down for 5, 10, 20, 40, and 60 seconds; the status light blinks orange for a while and the backlight fades in as if the device were rebooting, but nothing else changes. If I tap the power button, the status light turns green for a bit. The light will turn orange when connected to power but the device doesn't show up when I connect it to my laptop via USB.

Right now I'm leaving it on charge in case this could be some sort of battery drain issue, but I'm not optimistic. Unfortunately I don't have any of the recovery hacks installed this time, just MKK, KUAL, mrinstaller, KOReader, Gargoyle, and SkipStone.

I've attached some pictures and a video below.

After leaving the device on charge for a while and if no one here has any ideas, I'll get in touch with Amazon support to see if they'll repair/replace the device. If I have to flat-out buy a new one, will I be able to downgrade the firmware and/or jailbreak?

Broken screen.

Next time, consider buying a hardcover case.
It might survive in your 'bag' that way.

Unless you purchase a PW3-32 in Japan, the answer is: Yes.

Unfortunately this was one of the few times I left it out of its usual case :/ Won't make that mistake again.

That's a relief, at least. I couldn't survive without KOReader.
