Newbie Looking for advice
I have read loads on this forum about getting lights to read in darker environments - which to my mind seems obvious i cannot read abook without a decent light so why should this be different.
But my question is this (and I have done a search on the whole forum and am probably missing something) I want to but a the Sony 505 - basically this seems to be the only one you can actually get in UK that seems to be fairly priced ![]() But I want it to read when i sit in the sun (on holiday or just in the baack garden - just like I do now with my lovely sci fi paperbacks) Except the sun and me don't agree - I have a bit of a hing about bright sunlit pages and i cannot read them without wearing sunglasses. So here is the questions (sorry about the waffle but i wanted you to understand where I was coming from) How clear is the Sony 505 in very sunny and bright daylight? And if you where sunglasses can you still see the screen OK. My sunglasses are usually very dark ![]() ![]() Over to you yours tetraKM 16 days and counting and it will be mine - if what you tell me is good news ![]() |

TetraKM--I have no problems reading in the sun. To me, it seems like the Sony 505 is a little better to read in the sun than a paper book.
Have fun with your new toy!! dordale ![]() |

I just finished up my beach vacation on the Outer Banks at Avon, North Carolina, USA and my Sony PRS-505 (in a plastic baggie) did fine and was perfectly readable in the very bright sunlight.

Tetra - the contrast outside, in direct sunlight is very good. If you can comfortably read, say, a newspaper with your sunglasses on, then you'll have absolutely no bother at all.

Thanks Chaps and Chapesses - As the UK is slow to catch on to the revolution and the actual release date is also the date I am jetting off to sunnier climates - I was hoping you would say that - Hoorah 16 days and counting.
I have waited until somebody in the UK released this style of reader - and now it is finally going to happen. Lets hope I can get it charged and get the books I want to read onto it before I go - looks like I will have to play with the various convertors that are mentioned as A frient has sent me a hunter s thompson book - one of thsoe you always want to read and cannot find anywhere - hoorah! |

I agree with dordale. I've found the 505 very readable out in the sun.

I have a new 505 and have no trouble reading it on the tram to work. You might need to angle the reader so it isn't reflecting straight in your face but it is easy to find a good position.
On another plus side I was happy to find that polarised glasses don't darken the screen like they do with LCDs in laptops/musicplayers/Bank ATMs. |

actually that's a great idea, it could be a lot of fun. why don't you start a thread ? perhaps you could "borrow" this photo, if you don't have one handy of your own. we could alternately make it easier by limiting the submissions to books available here, or make it harder by imposing no limits whatsoever. :me rubs hands together in anticipatory glee:

Of course I never thought of that (sunglasses do do that don't they) - I have four laptops including a tablet PC and I hate them all in daylight. The worst is the IBM which is almost impossible even on a bright dull day (one of those days that looks like it is going to rain and yet seems as bright as a sunny day)

It is, and as you may all know it's not available as an ebook. I literally did scan my own copy in for this one, as I have four lying around.
