TOC section scope is not included in the parent chapter

This is (the main part of) the error message that I got when I tried to apply Kindlegen.exe on an epub file that I edited with Sigil. Kindlegen.exe then tells me that it cannot generate the MOBI file.

The TOC is generated by Sigil.

Any tips on what to look for in my epub document?

Another technically correct error message

have you used anchors of the form chaptername.html#A12345 ?
It may be simply that #A1234 target does not exist (or has a typo)

If your book passes epubcheck:

For example:

Chapter  1
    Chapter  1.1.

If so, you might want to flatten your TOC, because Kindle books support at most 2 levels.

Reducing the TOC depth will usually make this error go away.

I reduced the nesting level of the TOC to two, as in
Chapter 1
Chapter 1.1

The problem went away, but l'm not sure I like my TOC that way.
OK, I have a pointer....
