managing calibre hierarchy feature

This is driving me nuts, what am I doing wrong? I want to organise my collections/shelves into sub groups/genres on my Kobo with Calibres hierarchy feature. Eg, History -> Military History -> WWII, etc.

How the hell do I do this? I have checked the calibre manual but it just gives you a general outline which doesn't seem to work for the Kobo. I did consider asking on the calibre forum but since this seem to be a Kobo issue, uh, help?

Bugger.

Okay, next question, can I somehow tag so at least the grouping shows up as a sub heading or is that series only?

I love the Kobo but this seriously irritates me. That plus you can't collect bookmarks from different book and have them easily accessible.

You can use any column in calibre as a column to create the collections. If you have the tag or a genre column set to as a hierarchy, then the collections will be created with these names. So, you might get a collection called "SciFi.Military.Space". In calibre, the tag browser can show that hierarchy (but I can't remember how).

You want a list of all bookmarks on the device? No you can't do that. But, the search will search all annotations.
