NY Times - size issues
It's been a bit of time since I stopped reading the New York Times, because the size of the issue is levitating towards the 25-40 MB mark. This causes my Kindle DX to reset sometimes.
So I decided to try and edit nytimes.recipe, extracted from builtin_recipes.zip, renaming it to smallerNYTimes and adding it as a custom news source I tried a lot of things: 1) reducing the web sections from 24 to just 5: World,U.S.,Politics,New York,Opinion 2) setting getTechBlogs = False 3) setting useHighResImages = False 4) setting one_picture_per_article = True ... and maybe more, I forgot Results: what I did amounted to small oscillations in size, at most down to 32.1 MB, from the 40.7 MB of today's edition. What is it so heavy that the recipe downloads? thanks for your help... |

You want to see what's taking up the size download it in epub format and use eith er the editor or the unpack book tool to see what is large -- my guess would be images.

33MB (mobi) -> 28MB (epub);
its content: 3.5MB of index_split_xxx.html files, and 26MB of images |

... and this amount of images comes from 697 images in 330 articles,
yet I have: max_articles_per_feed = 100 one_picture_per_article = True ... seems there are problems in the original recipe... |

Well since the person that write the recipe is no longer around, you'll have to modify it yourself.
