Glo HD Covers

Having received a shipping notice from chapters.ca yesterday, I hope to get my Glo HD very soon, and will want a cover.

I thought about ordering the Kobo sleepcover designed expressly for the Glo HD, but the small flap on the right side that apparently overlaps the main screen flap looks awkward. I've been perfectly happy with the design of simpler covers on my Kindles and tablets; this looks fiddly. Plus, the OEM covers are always at the high end of the price spectrum.

My criteria are:
  • Good protection against damage when dropped and when stored in crammed backpack or luggage
  • Auto sleep/wake
  • No elastic straps for retention
  • Nothing covering the front bezel
  • reasonably attractive

Though a bit thick/heavy, I'm very satisfied with my Amazon OEM PW2 sleepcover, and I'm hoping to find a similar option for my Glo HD.

Recommendations?

Just went to my local Indigo store and checked out the new Glo HD Sleepcover.

It's a nice design and very thin - looks like it would provide reasonable protection to the Glo HD.

I'm waffling on buying it though - although the main cover does fold back completely, the small right flap doesn't appear to sit flush when folding back. Now, I don't know if that's because it was new and right of the box and not worked in yet - but I can tell you that it did not appear that the magnetic clasp in the cover allowed the small flap to stick to the bigger flap when folded backwards (i.e. allowing you to read).

Unlike the stock photos, when the covers are folded back onto themselves, they do not stay in place by magnetism.

Good to know! I was concerned that something like that might be an issue.

Though the dimensions are tantalizingly close to the non-HD Glo (just 1mm wider and .8mm thinner according to the specs. on the Kobe website), and many cases will fit both, I'm looking for something that conforms snugly to the back of the device, and thus suspect I'll need to wait for aftermarket options specific to the HD.

Just FYI, I've bought 4 different Kobo models. For each of them the 3rd-party slimfit click-in style cases have taken roughly 3 months from launch date to be readily available on eBay, Amazon etc. The penalties of not buying the leading brand (Kindle), I'm afraid.

Let's hope it might be different this time ...

I just got the case and yes, it does seem that the small flap is meant to "stick" to the cover when folded backwards. Mine springs open a bit but I'm sure when the case is broken in it will stick.

Oddly enough, the box stated the cover was for the Kobo Glo HD AND the Kobo Touch 2.0

As far as I know, Kobo only had one model named the Touch. Weird.

Well we're actually expecting to see another new device soon; there have been discussions on a code name of pika (found in some of the scripts).

Looks like some other folks have described the Kobo Glo HD Sleepcover as definitely "sticking" when folded back.

The trick is to fold the larger flap over the smaller flap - the opposite of what's seen in the stock photos of the Sleepcover.

I've ordered one and will report back later this week when I've had more than a few minutes to test it out.

I purchased this one from Amazon: cover

It's for the Glo, but the slightly smaller HD should fit and it was only $14, so it will be fine until the device specific cases hit the market.

It will stick with the Small flap over the big one, but it holds better as others have said the other way, big flap over small.

When folded back there is a large gap between the flaps and the back of the device, about 8-9 mm. Because of the gap if you hold your device with any significant pressure with you fingers on the back it moves the large flap closer to the device and reduces the surface area in contact between the to flaps to the point that the small flap let's go. This doesn't happen if you put the large flap over the small one.

Is there any hard front cover PVC covers/case for the screen? I don't want cardboard ones. Thanks

I ordered this sleeve to cover me over until a quality shell cover is released:

I also like to experience a new reader 'naked' for a while before putting it into a case (that sounded dirty...)

My cover arrived last night and I'm pretty pleased with it. Of course it adds bulk, but all covers will. The sleep/wake function works well and I like the "easel" function when reading during meal time. I don't think I'll be replacing it at all.

I'm using this Coodio cover from my Glo on the Glo HD and it fits perfectly. It's a bit sturdier than the other generic magnetic covers, the front flap particularly seems more solid and not near as flexible, and this particular cover never had the problem of shutting off the reader because of a too-strong magnet when the flap is folded over while reading. They had more colors at the time I ordered though, I have a medium shade of blue which I like.

I also have the more generic sleep covers which also fit perfectly, but the front flap seems a bit more flexible than the Coodio. Otherwise they also work and fit just fine.
