Since the Kobo Glo is no longer for sale, I suggest going with the Kobo Aura H2O.

The Glo HD seems to be still available in some places even if not directly from Kobo. It also seems to be mostly better than the Aura 2nd Edition specwise. I have heard some people say the build quality on the Aura is better. And maybe the light although I'm very wary of claims of better lights based on a single sample given that they can be quite variable and personal preference matter too. Pricewise the Aura seems to be barely cheaper. Many reviewers are wondering why the Glo HD with it often being suggested they need it to lower prices further to compete with Amazon. Anyway point is you may want to look around a bit for a Glo HD while you still can assuming you're not fixed on getting it from a certain place.

Ebook readers seem to be in decline and this is probably just part of that. Amazon keeps making more expensive ones and that's what most people buy so their competition has to cut costs. Barry |

The one thing we do know is that Amazon is the leader in the field and the others are pretty far behind, so my guess is that Kobo was cutting costs with their new Aura 2nd Edition to help them compete. Barry |

![]() Looking at review numbers in Amazon... All New Kindle - 1999 Kindle ereader - 16693 Paperwhite - 29,287 Voyage - 10,827 Oasis - 1,972 I believe the above number for the paperwhite is only for the most recent version. I'm guessing the "low end" (paperwhite and kindle) are out selling the high end. |

I'm sure the Paperwhite outsells the Voyage and the Oasis but I'm not sure that has much to do with what we're talking about. I suspect both the high end Kindles are selling enough to be worth it in and of themselves, and very likely those who buy more expensive models buy more books.
That might also be true with Kobo; that people who buy their high end readers buy more books. Another reason they might want to cut costs on their cheaper model. I'm just an old retired computer programmer, retired now for a couple of decades, and all I know about publishing and ereading other than from my own experience is what I read in here and in various blogs. I don't pretend to have any expertise. Just lots of opinions. ![]() Barry |

I suspect that Barry is on the right track. For better or worse, Amazon's Kindle is the iPhone of the e-reader world. They are ubiquitous (at least in the States). So that most people that are interested in buying an e-reader buy a Kindle. And someone with the money to buy a premium version is going to go for what's widely perceived as 'the best', the Kindle.
Kobo seems to have had luck with more expensive readers that are unique (larger screens), but I'd guess that is mainly because it is a game Amazon chooses not to compete in. The only 6" premium e-reader Kobo's sold is the original Aura and it is telling that the Aura 2 is a stripped down version of it. |

Maybe it depends on your definition of "premium", but I'd say the 6" Kobo GloHD was a better buy than either the original Aura or the Aura 2.
