Can't download from Amazon
Please bear with me: this will be a long post because many factors are involved.
- I have a Kindle Keyboard, and a Kindle Touch which Amazon recognises as Alex's Kindle2. - I rarely use the Kindle Touch except to test ebooks I've designed in ePub and converted to mobi with calibre. To test the mobi version I connect the Kindle Touch to my Windows computer, and load the ebook to the Kindle with calibre. - When I bought mobi ebooks from Amazon in the past I downloaded them to my computer, loaded them into calibre to make the change which is forbidden to identify on MR, and transferred them through calibre. - I hadn't bought ebooks from Amazon for about three years until this afternoon when I bought three ebooks which are not available as ePubs. - Amazon would not permit me to download the ebooks to my computer. I got a strange message to the effect that the ebooks were not compatible with my system. - Wifi is active on my Kindle. - I tried to transfer the ebooks to my Kindle through Wifi, and something must have happened because Amazon has charged me for the ebooks. - But I can't get the ebooks to transfer to the Kindle. I have selected the second Kindle as the default, and tried several times, but the ebooks do not appear on my Kindle. - Amazon mentions something about the Kindle Cloud, but I have never used that before and don't know what to do. - I also can't download ebooks which I had bought from Kindle years ago and which are still available from my Amazon library. - If it matters the Kindle has been upgraded by Amazon, and I know it can handle azw3 files. Can anyone help me please to download the new ebooks? I'd prefer to download them to my computer if possible so I can convert them to ePub, but if I have to I'll download them directly to the Kindle and try to put them in calibre later. |

Do you have Kindle For PC installed on your PC? If not download it and install it. When you login to your amazon account with Kindle for PC your purchased books should show up and you can download them.

Yes, if you didn't do it back in March, you must update your kindles.
Otherwise, they don't communicate with Amazon. You should have gotten emails on this. |

I went to the site, and so far as I know followed the instructions. I according to the site my Kindle firmware is 5.8.5.0.2 Is that the latest software? I also took the opportunity to Restart the Kindle, and then tried to download one of the Kindle ebooks from the site. Still no success. |

Do you have a Kindle Touch or is it one of the newer basic Kindles? That software version suggests a newer 7th or 8th generation Kindle than the Kindle Touch which came out in 2011 (4th generation device) and stopped at software version 5.3.7.3. The 7th & 8th Gen Kindle's didn't require an update like older Kindle's did (the Kindle Keyboard did).
Are these books that might be fixed format of some sort that isn't compatible with all devices? Do they have a "compatible on these devices" list on their Amazon pages? |

I installed this version, but when I tried to open it I got the message that I was using an out of date version, and sent to the download page from where I downloaded the offered version and opened it - only to be told that I am using an out of date version. I'll try deleting Kindle for PC from my computer, and trying again. But I'm rapidly losing faith in Amazon or hope that I'll ever be able to read the three ebooks I bought from them yesterday. |

The kindle keyboard will have a firmware of 3.????
Oh and you can go to Manage your kindle and return the books. Do not tap delete but click the arrow and click return. You have 7 days to do that. Or you can call customer service to get a refund. |

Another complication which I should have put on the original post is that I started with Amazon before they set up Amazon.au, and now am forced to use Amazon.au. So far as I can tell I can download old ebooks, but not newer ones. Still can't download the the ebooks I bought yesterday from Amazon.au |

As for the Amazon.au thing as far as I know (I could be wrong though) that is a user choice thing since I've seen some Australian folks who still use .com and they mention the ability to switch back and forth on this page... https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/help/cu...deId=201248840 Depending on device can you go to Archived Items or Cloud on the device and see/download your stuff that way? |
