No sony t3 so what should I get

I'm extremely happy with my t3 but it may die. I need epub compatibility, light and expandible memory (over 1700 books). What suggestions are there? I'm in canada if that effects choice.

The best choice is the Kobo Aura H2O. You can buy one at Chapters. It is heavier than the T3, but it has a much nicer screen, a very good front light, and it takes a microSD card. It does have 4gig internal storage (some of that is used for the system software).

The weight of the T3 is 200g and the weight of the H2O is 233g. Hardly all that noticeable.

Yeah, I'd agree a Kobo is the way to go.

If expandable memory is a must, the Aura H20 or the original Aura would be the two I'd recommend. Kobo's dropped SD slots after that.

Oh yes, one other feature I forgot to mention. Because eBooks from Overdrive are ePub and there is no Kindle support, it means you can borrow eBooks from Overdrive for use on the H2O if your library supports Overdrive.

P.S. This is for outside the USA.

Appreciate the advice, but as the 200 DOLLAR price is a little off-setting for something that might sit in a drawer until my t3 dies, I think I'll hold off until I need it (my t3 was about $130). One thing concerns me about the kobo is the requirement that you "sign-in"or register to use the machine. All I want to do is turn it on, connect to computer and transfer epub.

Why is that a problem? You only have to do it once, and a throwaway email address works fine.

You have to register Kindles to make full use of them. Besides, you could create a blank account and use that to sign-in.

Don't buy a spare Reader for in-case. It will sit unused and the battery may not be happy. But if you did buy an H2O, the T3 would be sitting unused. The H2O has a much nicer screen and the version RMDSK (ADE) is newer. There are a lot more features such as side loading your choice of fonts. And then there is the front light which is very useful.

I agree with Wolf that if you get a lighted ereader, Kobo or Kindle or Nook you'll soon stop using the T3. The light isn't about reading in the dark. It's about increasing contrast and it does so nicely and gently, unlike an LCD screen with a backlight. It just makes reading easier in any light.

Your T2 is probably good for a long time yet, but if you want to upgrade, try the Inkbook Obsidian.

It's about US$100, frontlight, Carta screen so it's nicer than the T2. Expandable storage and compatible with whichever format you want because it's Android. Out of the box I it's compatible with Epub and quite a few formats, FBReader is installed. It's available on Amazon. Also, the screen is flush with the bezel which makes keeping it clean a lot easier than ereaders with raised edges. It does have slightly worse battery life than non-Android ereaders, but it's still a lot better than a tablet.

I don't use the light when I have enough external light. But I do use the light when I don't have enough external light or in the dark like in bed when my wife is sleeping.

The biggest problem (IMHO) with the Inkbook Obsidian is that the screen is 6". I've gone to a 6.8" screen and I find it a very nice size. 6" is looking small these days.

That Obsidian looks very nice indeed.

I was looking at the Inkbook Obsidian at Amazon today and it's pretty tempting. I'd like a 6" device that'll let me use Moon+ reader and scroll like I do on my phone. I find scrolling to be a more pleasant way to read but I can't read on LCD long enough. This might be a good solution.

I worry though that scrolling won't work well on an e-ink screen. That's a lot of money to me so I don't want to spend it without some confidence that it'll do the job. I'm not fond of returning things.

If anyone has one and can try Moon+ on it and let us know if you can scroll reasonably well with it I'd appreciate it. I use the manual scroll, not the automatic scroll.

Yeah, from my experience, fluid movement and e-ink are a bad mix. Reminds me of the very first Gameboy.
