How to basic reset Aura One?

For future reference, I've looked around and can't find any mention of how to do a basic reset of the Aura One (NOTE: there is no reset hole in the bottom!).

Does anyone know it is done?

Hold the power button for 15-20 seconds to force a power off is what works on other Kobo ereaders.

That, is a "Factory Reset". It removes everything from the device and takes it back to the out-of-factory state. It took me ages to find out, but a "Basic reset" is what the pinhole reset button was used for the other devices. That does a warm reboot. As the Aura ONE doesn't have a pinhole reset button, what the other David said is the way to do it.

Unfortunately, not always.

I already discussed this, sometimes you need dedicated reset (I needed it), or you need to wait for battery to completely drain, or in more extreme cases, from reading what other people experienced, you may even need to actually disconnect battery from device.

Anyway, we will read about this subject a bit more as time passes and software shows how it actually works.

Alan, how might this be done with a non-removable battery?

There is no such thing as a non-removable battery. All you need is a can opener and a rubber hose ...

So there's two ways to do a reset, quick and factory.

Quick reset:
Hold power button until "Powered off" screen appears, let go. (sometimes, if device is unresponsive, it might just go black)
Wait 5-6 seconds
Hold power button again for about 10-20 seconds, or until indicator light flashes blue/green, then immediately let go, device refreshes.

Factory Reset (This is from the user guide instructions)
Performing a manual factory reset
If a factory reset didn't solve your problem, you can try a manual factory reset to restore your eReader to its original settings. After a manual factory reset, you'll need to set up and sync your eReader again. Before you start, charge your eReader for 3 hours.
1. Turn on your computer.
2. Connect the USB power cord to your eReader and computer.
3. Press and hold the power button to turn off your eReader.
4. Wait for the power light on the top-right corner of your eReader to turn off.
5. Press and hold the power button on your eReader for 30 seconds.
6. Wait for the Restore screen to appear. Your eReader screen will turn black and begin the restoring process. After the restoring process finishes, follow the onscreen instructions to set up your eReader. You'll need access to an active Wi Fi or internet connection to complete setup.

Hopefully that clears things up .

Hmmm... does the Aura One respond to the tap both bottom corners of the screen during power on to trigger a factory reset when the device is unable to boot to the GUI?

I don't know at the moment, but no battery (at least at this stage in technological development) is completely non-removable.

I watched threads about H2O and what was going on for some users. Aura One is still too new to show everything what users can expect. But, with time we will know how to disconnect it's battery (and much more).

If holding the power button does not force the device to turn off, there is probably something malfunctioning at a very low level. It's unfortunate if this happens out of warranty, but regardless of tricks to recover, the device should probably be considered broken.

There is a special challenge with e-ink devices. If it becomes truly unresponsive, you can force it to shut down with the long hold of the power button. However, the screen won't actually change!. If the light is off, the only thing you can do is take it on faith that it's shutting down, wait 10 seconds or so, then try turning it on again.

If you think that I don't know this info, well, I know it. And I tried. And it didn't worked.

Luckyly for me, H2O has dedicated reset button which solved problem quickly. And no, I don't consider my device at the moment broken. It still works just fine. I would never go that far to consider device broken for reason you mention.

On the other hand, you can consider your device in whichever state you like it to be.

Funny how there’s already a thread about resetting a Kobo, days after the device was released...
Don't get me wrong, I'm ok with all the quirks my H2O has, but come on! Write some stable software and get rid of the terrible database implementation, Kobo!

Because of the absence of the reset hole I am afraid to experiment with Metazoa patches.
I just installed the Rocket Chess Cool Reader and that's it, for now.
I hoped to find a clear answer how to emulate "the hole reset".
Not sure if holding the power button down twice is that answer.

Hmmm.... the Metazoa patches are a lot less intrusive than KOReader or CoolReader. So far I have seen no mention of any issues connected to using GeoffR's patcher on a KA1.

And, yes, hold the power button down for 20-30 seconds, release, wait 10 seconds or so and then press the power button until the front LED lights up.
