Firmware Update Periodic Firmware Updates for KK3

Whilst reading my KK3 today, it carried out what I assume was a Firmware Update.

Without warning, the screen displayed a graphic of someone reading beneath a tree and a progress bar. The process only took about 20 seconds...

At the time wifi was switched off and it was not connected to my laptop.

Just to satisfy my curiosity,

- Was it a Firmware Update?

- If it was, is there a page somewhere with details of the update?

I have never had my Kindle do an update without asking me if I wanted it to update.

Sounds like it just crashed and rebooted. That happens occasionally.

The update screen will display a message that it is updating. There is no tree.

Sounds more like just a reboot if it only took 20 seconds. Not sure what would have happened to make it reboot, but I doubt it was any kind of OTA firmware update for a number of reasons.

Unless its a 3G model, if you had wi-fi off it wouldn't pick up an update.
There have been no updates for the KK in a while. The last update had to be done earlier this year or else your KK would no longer be able to connect to Amazon.

Your software version should be 3.4.2 (Home > Menu > Settings, and the software version should be at the bottom of the screen).

I only have the wi-fi KK3.

This "update" has occurred before - about once a year at most (this was the first time since I joined mobileread).

What you describe is definitely not an update. The device just rebooted.

I agree with Harry it sounds like a reboot. I have had that happen to my Kindles every no and then. I have never had a update that I was not asked if I wanted it to take place.

I did, multiple times, but only when the kindle was idle and sleeping not while I was reading. (paperwhite 3).

I agree though that the thread starter only has experienced a reboot, not an OTA.

That is nothing more than a reboot or in other words, it restarted.
All of mine have done that at times.
