Do I need a new one?

I have the older paperwhite with 212 ppi. I pretty much only read on my paperwhite in bed in the dark. As I get more tired, I just up the font size. Anyone who switch to the new paperwhite from the old, do you really think it made a difference?

I have the PW2 and the voyage. While I do read my voyage more than the PW2 when it comes to just reading I do not see that much difference in the screens. Now I have bad eyes so I am not sure that is why I do not notice the difference.

I switched from a PW1 to a PW3 and noticed a significant difference. As expected, the text was much sharper, but, surprisingly, the screen of the PW3 has almost none of the splotchy areas that the PW1 had. I don't know if this is generally the case or if I just had a bad PW1 (or received a good PW3). As an aside, I only paid $20 for the PW3 due to a price mistake on Amazon. I would not have paid $120 to upgrade from a PW1 to a PW3. |

I have all three Paperwhite models. The biggest difference I notice is that the Paperwhite 2 and 3 are a bit faster than the Paperwhite 1. That's not much of a difference in my opinion. It's also true that the light is more even on the later ones but I only notice that when I compare them side by side. When I'm reading the light is always just right. I don't seem to be affected by the sharper screen of the Paperwhite 3. I'm an old guy so maybe that's why but I can't tell the difference. This is all very personal stuff. You might like the new one better but I doubt you'll find a dramatic difference. And you might not find much difference at all that you care about. The only way you'll know is to get one. Or decide you're happy with what you have. Barry |

Does the PW1 have the Ember Bold font. That's what I use to read now and, for me, that would be enough reason to change.

Incidentally, depending on your eyes, you may actually find the PW2 easier to read because the lower resolution can make text look bolder / darker. Point is, you cannot go by what most people find unless you have normal 20/20 vision. Best to try it out yourself.

I had the PW1 and upgraded to the PW3, noticeable differences , the PW3 is faster and has a better screen. I think PW3 is a nice reader for the price.

Thanks. Now that I can justify the PW3, I wonder if I can justify the Oasis. I am sure you all can help.

I'll be glad to lend a hand! 1. The Oasis has page-turn buttons 2. The Oasis is exceedingly light and comfortable (outside its cover, naturally) 3. By all accounts, the Oasis has somewhat better contrast than the PW3 4. The Oasis is so expensive that reading on it in public gives an impression of a really wealthy and important person. Even if you have to empty your savings account to buy it, it'll be worth it. Image is everything. |

The refurbed Voyage is such a great deal that it almost convinces me to turn Kindle. But not quite. | |
