There's a knack to it. You need the desktop version, not the default mobile site.

Sign into Dropbox
Navigate to the folder your book is in then select the grey'd out words Desktop Version at the bottom of the folder. (I guess you could select the words Desktop Version anywhere you see them)
Now press on the ePub and a row of words will appear at the top of the folder. Select the word Download and a pop up will appear saying File Download and asking you to continue or cancel.
Select Continue then wait for the pop up that says Download Complete, then close or open.

I close and navigate to Home/Books and open the book from there. It should also be on a tile on the home page as well.

If you have a tablet it's easier to move/copy the ePub first to a dedicated folder so you don't have to scroll down beyond the screen of the Kobo.

The Kobo browser can download (unencrypted) EPUB files (it will show a dialog box for the download and then ask you whether to open the book directly), however it does not accept them from anywhere. For example the EPUB downloads on Mobileread don't seem to work, not sure if it's because of some HTTP header or because the download goes via attachment.php?randomnumbers so its not clear from the link itself that it's an EPUB file...

I have a folder on DB called Kobo I move the books to. I have it bookmark and once I log in I choose desktop version then tap the icon by the book. (It works so much better then hitting the links if you tap the icons.) Tap the download icon at the top of the list to download your book.

I only use the Dropbox method to get books on my Kobo and it works but I am concerned it won't be long till they make it totally incompatible. Dropbox is the only cloud service I know if that still works on my Kobo.

I'm not sure if something has changed over time but my Kobo Glo HD is unable to download epubs from Dropbox. I can navigate there fine from the browser, and I choose desktop version, but when I click the download button nothing happens. I'm quite sad about this! Does anyone have any ideas on how to make it work?

Yes something seems to have changed at the dropbox end. I could download from my Glo the last time I tried about a month or so ago, and I'm still running the same firmware on my Glo, but I just tried again now and the download button doesn't work anymore.

I got it to work but not sure how I did. I'll report back once I got it figured it out.

Update: Weird it's just working normal now. No method to it I can tell. I'm just using the desktop version. I'm tapping the download link at the tip of the list. At first nothing but now it works.

I'm jealous! It is still not working for me. I have tried with multiple books, on desktop version, but nothing happens when I tap the download link.

Do you have a paid or free Dropbox account? I'm using a free account, I don't know if it makes any difference.

Free account. Try removing all pop ups before downloading.

You will get a 404 error, hit back button and x out of download pop-up. Now tap download at top of list and it will work now. You only need to do once per session.

I tried to follow those directions but by my browser crashes every time, it might be because I am using a Glo which has less memory than the Glo HD.

Luckily I don't actually need Dropbox, I keep all my books stored on my Glo.

This didn't work for me. I don't get a download popup at all, which might be part of the problem. When I click the book and then click the "download" button, nothing at all happens (besides the screen flashing a bit in the way ereader browsers do). No popup at all. But I tried changing the url as suggested anyway, got the error, went back. Still did nothing when I clicked download.

Not sure why it works for some people and not for others! That's even more frustrating.

Edit: I just got it to work! And I'm not sure why because all I did was repeat your suggestion even though it hadn't worked the first time. But this time when I went back to the home page it worked! Woohoo! I hope it works again in the future. Thank you, Blossom, for figuring out a workaround!

I have found another way but you need to use the mobile site. Tap the arrow by the file and choose share link. When the Download button appears replace www.dropbox.com with dl.dropboxusercontent.com and tap enter and it will download.

The only thing is you need to do this for every book you want to download.
