Conversion is not working

Hi, a few days ago I downloaded the most recent version of Calibre for Mac (running OS X El Capitan). I am now having problems converting books and as there is no contact information for the makers of this software and I am not on social media, this is the only place to mention it. First I tried converting some PDF books to Mobi format (I did see on this forum there are issues converting from PDFs). The job status said it was starting but never moved forward. I was able to convert a book from epub to Mobi but it took 2 minutes 41 seconds which is kind of long. Maybe the software needs to be fixed.

How long did you wait?
Some complex conversions can take a few hours to a whole day.

Note: Bibles and dictionaries are known resource hogs and may crash (out of memory). 64bit and much RAM might

make it.

Standard advice on conversions: Run till it is done or crashes

Thanks. I tried again with some epub files converting to mobi and they started working faster—conversions were done within one minute. I gave up on the PDFs when they weren't converting within two minutes and then I read on this forum there are problems with converting PDFs to other formats.
