Dieser hochdramatische Kriminalroman von Anna Katherine Green erschien im Original ("One of my sons") 1901. Die vorliegende deutsche Ausgabe wurde noch in demselben Jahr publiziert und von einem deutschen Illustrator recht hübsch bebildert; der Künstler hat sich zum Teil die Illustrationen von Louis Betts aus der amerikanischen Originalausgabe zum Vorbild genommen, aber zahlreiche eigene Gestaltungen hinzugefügt.
Das Cover-Bild stammt aus einer jener Illustrationen von Louis Betts aus der amerikanischen Originalausgabe.
