Volunteer Icon Artist needed
Hi All,
To make Sigil work better with high dpi displays (such as the 4K displays and retina displays) being used now, Sigil needs to create double sized icons that are consistent with the 16x16 px and 22x22 px icons that already exist in Sigil now. I was able to find 48x48 versions of many of our toolbar icons by looking in opensource icon collections (where the original icons must have been taken). But for a number of actions, Sigil's earlier developers must have created their own icons. For this set, all I have been able to do is use ImageMagick to scale the 22x22px icons up to 44x44 px icons, but frankly many of them look ragged and horrible at the larger size. So what we need is someone who has some artistic ability to create 48x48 px replacements for the following icons as found in Sigil/src/Resource_Files/main/ folder: Spoiler:
These new 48x48 px replacements must be consistent with their existing 22x22px and 16x16px versions or something new generated for all 3 sizes so that they are consistent. Please note, we are NOT trying to redesign the interface icons, we simply need higher quality versions of the icons listed above so that Sigil continues to work on high dpi (high resolution displays). If you can help, that would be wonderful! Please let us know here. Thanks, Kevin ps I have uploaded the icons that we need to have replaced with better 48x48 px versions in case anyone wants to look at them. |

Are the icons in the attachments the sort of thing you're looking for? I created them using an app called Iconic (https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...s.iconic&hl=en) on my Android phone. I've attached the icons in all three of the sizes you mentioned. As far as I can tell the licenses for the icon sets used by the app are all open source or creative commons. From a quick scan of the icons in the available sets it looks as though there may be two or three more on your list in addition to the two I've attached. |

Hi Micki,
Just saw your reply. I am away with access to only an ipad until Friday. I will download them and take a look and let you know. At first glance the 2 you show look good. Thanks! KevinH |

No problem. The app will also allow you to set icon & background colours based on RGB values so it should be possible to match the existing icons colours exactly.

Hi MickieTee,
I finally had a chance to look at the icons 48x48 ons you posted. They look good but do not have a transparent background where needed. For example the InsertID48.png seems to have neutral grey background but to match the other sizes we already have and the general scheme the background should be transparent. Similarly, the InsertNumbered48.png background is supposed to be transparent around the small piece of paper it is meant to hold. Please see the posted zip archive of the icons we are trying to replace (especially the anchor) to see what I mean about transparent backgrounds. Is that something doable? Thanks, KevinH |

Kevin,
I can take a shot at it. But I looked for the original icons on my W10 system and couldn't find them. So if you still need help on this, could you zip up the originals that need to be upsized and attach them here? --Pat |

Please see the fixme_please_icons.zip for the pixel doubled versions posted in this thread.
If you want the 22x22 px versions, I can post them too but not until Tuesday as I am travelling. Thanks, KevinH |

Hi Kevin, I saw those. But it's best to work from the originals and size up from there instead of trying to fix icons that were not optimally enlarged in the first place. So I was looking for the originals in the program on my W10 system.
If anyone knows where they are stored in Windows 10 or how to otherwise access them, let me know. Otherwise, Kevin, I'll just wait for you to get back next week. Have a great time wherever you are! --Pat |

They're compiled into the exe as binary resources. They don't exist as stand-alone files in a Sigil installation. The 22px versions in the zip file in this thread ARE the originals (they can also be found in Sigil's source). That's why we need better ones.

Struggling to get what we need, so I'll stop for the moment now that PatNY is onboard and going to try. |

Hi Kevin
You're welcome. Let me know if there's anything else I can help with e.g. testing. I have a nice new HD monitor. Micki |
