Arrow Books not showing up in Kobo Aura

Hello everyone,
Today I finally bought my first e-reader, Kobo Aura. I'm having a problem that my e-reader doesn't show all the copied books from my laptop. For instance, I copied about 50 e-books and only 18 were being shown on the device. Moreover, I also tried to transfer books from Kobo downloadable application for windows but still no luck with it. Can anyone please guide me how do I deal with it?

I tried to remove all the downloaded books on my device and dragged them back again. When i disconnected my device to see whether the books have been transferred or not I saw the screen like this

What should I do now? This is so frustrating.

Someone else will give you much better assistance than me in resolving your current problem.

But in the future, I would recommend Calibre both to organize your books on your PC and to send them to your Kobo: http://calibre-ebook.com/

I'm sorry your Kobo experience started off on a sour note. In general, they are wonderful devices.

That is a sign that the database on the device has become corrupt. Sign out of the Kobo account on the device. This will generate a new database and reload any books.

Would dragging and dropping to and from the Kobo via Windows Explorer rather than using Calibre be more likely to cause database corruption? I've only ever used my Kobo with Calibre, so I'm just wondering.

You also have to do a proper disconnect or the database could become corrupt. You cannot just unplug the USB cable without first disconnecting.

Hmmm... as you've probably already been told, it looks as if you have a corrupt database. I'd suggest using either Sign out (Settings/Accounts/Kobo/Sign out) or the Factory Reset (Settings/Device Information/Factory Reset) to reset your device. Sign out is less destructive so I'd suggest that as your first solution to try.

After that, I'd recommend using Calibre to manage your ebook library and Kobo Aura. My recommendation would be to add the Kobo Utilities and Smart Eject plugins -- Kobo Utilities is very useful and, for me, Smart Eject makes sure your device is safely ejected. There are quite a few other Calibre plugins which you might find useful but that's a topic for another discussion. See Calibre Plugins for more on the plugins available.

It would be less likely to cause corruption. The driver in calibre is opening the database, so if anything goes wrong, then there is a chance of corruption. But, calibre should not be causing problems and if you eject properly, the database should be saved OK.

So dragging/dropping is actually safer than Calibre? Who knew?

At any rate, I will continue to use Calibre. I've not had any problems with database corruption.

I'm asking all the questions. I hope the OP found an answer.

Smile Thank you everyone!

Thank you, everyone, for their prompt replies. So last night out of frustration I did a Factory Reset on my device and I'm glad that it is working as it is supposed to work. I dragged and dropped more than 50 ebooks and all of them were on my device. I'm so happy that my device is back to normal.

I'm even half way through Alice in the Wonderland now on my device

Welcome to the Kobo family. I'd say lurk at the boards here and do some research. If you're one that likes to tinker with computers, you can make all sorts of adjustments to your Kobo. At the very least, it's nice to adjust the search to default to your library rather than the book store.

I've had my H2O for almost 2 years, I've never had a database corruption because I've always made sure to disconnect it from the computer properly. I've used Calibre with it and I've never put books on any other way.
