Adding a tag to the Tags pull-down menu ?

The Tags pull-down menu offers a number of tags, an option to remove tags from the menu, but nothing about adding tags.

I searched the Help in vain for a way to add tags I use repeatedly.

Is there a possibility to add tags, for instance by adding them in a config file if not directly through the GUI ?

tweak_book_gui.json is the config file (preferences folder)

What you get / lose by messing there ?? I can't answer.

I'm not sure whether I've understood your question correctly, but if you mean something like 'how do I make 'SteamPunk' one of my Tags?', the answer is just add SteamPunk in the Tags column for one of your books. It will automatically appear as an entry under Tags in the Tag Browser pane.

If you mean something different, please explain further.

You are talking about the EDITOR toolbar?

Normal(? ) book tags are just added in the Metadata Editor as Jackie_W points out

No, I am referring to the <> tab in the toolbar of the Epub Editor, which opens a pull-down menu with p, li, div, H1, h2, h3 etc. to insert a html tag in the code of the edited book.

I would like, for instance, to add the <br> tag to the pull-down menu as I use it often.

theducks had the right approach. It's in tweak_book_gui.json.


Close calibre down before manually editing tweak_book_gui.json in a decent text editor (e.g. Notepad++ on Windows, not Notepad or Wordpad). Look for the label "insert_tag_mru" and add your missing tags there. Save file, then restart calibre.

is a 'self closing' tag, like <hr />

Note the intent (perceived) of this feature is to Wrap Text in a Tag

br and hr would be a simple insert here

When is a Tag not a Tag, when it's Keyword or Category

I think I had a TAG pencil back in the days when I wrote code on paper - 'twas brillig blue and slithy silver.
