Preventing automatic downloads in the Kindle

When I buy a book from Amazon I always use "Download & Transfer via USB". I then transfer the file to Calibre and let the Apprentice do his magic.

I may later sideload the book to my Voyage, but I often prefer to use my iPad to read the book and I also want to add fonts to the book and then use "Publisher Font" in the Kindle.

If I later will read on my Kindle and turn off Airplane mode I risk to get a lot recent purchases delivered via Wifi.

Is it possible to somehow prevent this automatic download? The Kindle IOS app never does this.

It is not an option to turn on Airplane mode because I will often use the Google translator.

You'll only get books delivered to the Kindle if you've chosen it as the delivery target for your books.

What I do personally is to have Kindle for PC as my default delivery device, send all my books there, and load them into Calibre from K4PC. That way, nothing is every delivered to the Kindle.

Now if you are looking at the cloud/archive/whatever they are calling the internet storage, you will see the titles of your new books but they are not on the device. You would have to tap on it and then it would download.

That is a very common mistake that people make. They think they are looking at the device when they are looking at the cloud.
On the older Fires, the covers show up on the carousel but the books are not downloaded.

So you don't have to worry.

I have now made K4PC my default delivery device. I suppose I can still use "Download & Transfer via USB" to my Kindle.

I have never really used K4PC and I can't find where it stores the books on my PC?

They're stored in the folder "My Documents\My Kindle Content".

Just sort the folder by date to see the books you've added most recently.

The problem was that new books downloaded automatically from the cloud as soon as my Kindle was connected to WiFi. I would then have to remove these books from the device.
I only wanted books that I sideloaded from Calibre.

Thank you. I found the folder, I searched for files whose names were similar to the book titles.

And these are the files you put into Calibre?

The files you put into Calibre are those with a ".azw" extension. They should appear in Windows Explorer with a blue book icon. Ignore all the other files - they're things like page map files, bookmarks and annotations, etc.

If you want to see the book titles in your Kindle Content folder, then there's a little program Alissa's MobiHandler. It's free and has worked for me beautifully on several Windows versions. It even works on Windows 10.
