Rubel, is his vintage standalone western historical action adventure novel set in Arizona, starring a travelling man hoping to settle down into a peaceful town, only to find one riddled with lions and tigers and bears gunshots and intrigue and a rivalry for his affections, oh my!, free courtesy of publisher Endeavour Press' Pioneering imprint, who are e-printing it from its 1957 edition originally published by The Western Book Club.

Because it's always nice to receive another of Endeavour's generously-offered reprints of old pulp genre novels that would otherwise probably be pretty hard to find, and this one looks like it's got the makings of a pretty funny comedy of errors plot, even if it probably plays it out seriously for serious.

After three years of travelling through Mexico, Hugh Devlin returns to Arizona, hoping to finally find somewhere peaceful to settle.

Reigning in his horse he looks down on the lovely landscape of Thunder Valley and finally feels like he’s home.

But no sooner does he arrive than he stumbles upon a near-dead man hanging from a tree and hears the unmistakeable sound of gunshots.

Not exactly the peaceful town he had imagined.

Undeterred, Devlin determines to purchase the Rocking S Ranch, deciding to bring justice on the notorious Pete Coffin.

As the town’s largest and most notorious landowner, Coffin’s men run riot against Thunder Valley’s settlers.

He soon finds himself tangled in a web of violence and deceit, not to mention a popular target for the towns’ mistrust.

To complicate matters further, he inadvertently catches the attention of two of the town’s most beautiful and headstrong women.
