Newly acquired kindle PW2 won't automatically reconnect to wifi

Hi all,

I just picked up a second hand PW2(which looks brand new, hardly used.) I have updated it to the latest firmware available which appears to be 5.8.2. Everything is working great but the device doesn't seem to reconnect to my previously setup wifi networks(work, home, and cell phone hotspot.) I have to go in to wifi settings to get it to reconnect. As soon as I open wifi networks it will then connect without my intervention. I assume this is not the normal behaviour as it is rather annoying(to me.) Unfortunately I pretty much updated the firmware before I noticed this behaviour so not sure if it was doing the same on the previous version. Anyone experienced this before? Is there simply a menu setting I am missing. Airplane mode is always OFF fwiw.

Look and see if there is an automatically reconnect box and make sure it is checked.

Thanks for the suggestion but I am not seeing that option anywhere. It definitely seems to be an intermittent thing. Sometimes it will reconnect and sometimes I have to go into the wifi settings and manually click on the network to get it to connect. May contact amazon support if it continues.

I have issues at times eith devices connecting to my wifi router and I fix it by rebooting the router

Agreeing with cvkemp,
Reboot the modem and or router.
Also restarting the kindle won't hurt.

The Kindle will sometimes drop the connection when it is idle, but if you do anything that requires WiFi it will reconnect. That includes opening the WiFi setup.

This seems to be the correct answer. It does in fact seem to reconnect as soon as it needs the network. I guess I just expected it to connect as soon as it woke up much like phones and tablets. Thanks!

The way you use the device may affect this. The 'Sync My Kindle' choice (accessed from the gear icon at the top of the screen) should force a connection. Also, if you are reading a book downloaded from the Amazon cloud (either purchased or a personal document) it should re-connect wi-fi when you put the Kindle to sleep and when wake it up in order to synchronize the last page read in case you read the same book on another device in the mean time.

Happy to help.

I particularly noticed this behavior myself, only because thirdparty hacks (like the SkipStone browser) do not trigger the reconnection.

But I guess overall it saves battery, which is always a good thing.
