Somebody thinks samsung 7 note will be a game changer?
samsung note 7 has a 5,7 super amoled screen.
the technology is less flickering, it has possibilities to change the setting of the screen as never before, and last but not least most of the reviews say, will be able to to read on the sun without problems. I saw that is quite similar to the samsung s7 edge, that I had the occasion to see, and I am quite impress( although on the sun frontal facing the sun, still there is a blind point) Do someone think it is arrived the moment reading on a tablet/phablet like this and the next coming models(HTC, LG etc) will be comfortable ALMOST as reading eink. I ude the capital letters on almost, because of course eink is unbeatable under the sun and to relax the eyes in my opinion. Last edited by trocchietto; 08-19-2016 at 04:52 PM. |

AMOLED is still a synced (i.e. refreshed multiple times per second) display, as it can not, and does not, persist the information (the frame). While raising the frame rate does indeed increase display quality, it will still put strain on the human eye.

fonix, I am fighting to advocate eink covers for android devices, just because I personally feel a huge difference when I am beyond a pc, and when I read a book on eink, and how i feel well and relaxed, but still I would like to know if you think that super amoled is more relaxing than lcd and a normal matte pc screen.
I am more curious about the second one. Also I would add that I noticed that more the screen are small and more eyestrains I have, I guess are the fonts. thank you |

I don't know this is how it works but I think I'd be a little surprised if it didn't. I suspect it would take more power to light the LED than to keep it on. Barry |

i've been reading on sammy's for years now, reading mode really makes a difference (vs other screens without)
that being said, I've never had an issue with any LCD screen, of any vintage. Heck, I read the first 13 books of the Wheel of Time on a PSP.... |

edit. yesterday i read for three hours on samsung s7 edge quite similar to note 7. Not a good experience, although i set the light lower than the fabric settings with an ad hoc app, and big character still the retrolight caused me eyestrains( I work behind pc for 13 hours per day in this period), opening instead on the evening the eink is really relaxing. really hope samsung or third parties are going to do an eink cover. Is a great device( apart touchwiz aka i would root the device), but pity I have always to bring with me also the ereader

The problem with e-ink is still it's relatively low resolution (as in, the DPI/PPI values) compared to current phone displays.
AMOLED still uses full screen refresh, as it is required for smooth animations. But E-ink is not capable of that fast screen refreshing, or even partial refresh and draw. Hopefully in the next 5-10 years we will see some advance in that field too, to have refresh/draw times on par with a 60Hz display. |

It may be more readable than current amoled screens in sunlight, but I doubt it's anything like e-ink. In any case, most people like e-ink readers because they find them easier to read on for long periods than back lit or emissive displays. Sunlight readability is a bonus. Ditto power consumption, ie battery weight.
The better e-ink readers have 300DPI. Resolution isn't the problem. You can't even see e-ink pixels without magnification. E-ink's low refresh rate is the real limiter. |

Device usability is moot. Has been recalled for battery problems. If you own one, better check.

Modern eInk displays are 300dpi. I honestly don't see the need for any higher pixels density than that. Can you elaborate on why you consider it to be a problem? What applications require higher pixel density?
