Calibre - switching title and series coloumn

Hi,

I have a problem with Calibre. I have imported ebooks and the metadata were taken from the file name. In most cases the file name was author - title.epub. All went well, the metadata were imported correctly to Calibre.

The problem is: For books which are part of a series, Calibre added the title of the book to the series coloumn whereas the name of the series is in the title coloumn. (Therefore searching for metadata e.g. comments on the net is not working because Calibre does not know that the title is found in the series coloumn.)

Example: Author: Agatha Christie - Series: Hercule Poirot Mystery - Title: Death on the Nile. "Death on the nile" would be in the series coloumn, "Hercule Poirot Mystery" in the title coloumn.

Is there a one-click solution to switch the title and series coloumns for several books? Or is there a specific setting that has to be used during the metadata downloading process that tells Calibre that the book title is in the series coloumn?

Thanks a lot, Carl

P.S.: Reimporting the books is not an option for me for I don't have the files anymore.

Maybe the book has the correct metadata (IF YOU HAVE NOT DONE ANYTHING THAT WOULD HAVE CHANGED IT)

In the Metadata Editor for a book: Select the format: Click the blue i icon (get metadata from the book)(the brown book gets a declared cover)

Otherwise:
You need a spare column of the correct type

(applies to only on books with the same issue AT ON TIME)
Use the Bulk Metadata: Search and Replace to 'walk' (rotate) the data between fields I use REGEX mode

Source field:
search (.+) <everything in the field (series and series index may need 2 capture groups)

Target field: <spare or empty target field. IT WILL OVERWRITE>
Replace: \1

Repeat until the Title, Author, Series, Series_Index are in the right places

Thanks a lot, theducks. Taking the metadata out of the book works fine.

Is there a possibility to do it for more than one book at a time with one click? (I have the problem with several books ...)

Not really safe so Bulk mode only lets you do some things to all selected books:
Do groups where you might be able to use the S&R tab of bulk mode to move the field data, then use the Basic tab to set all of a field the same (Author, series [I]name[/I, add a Tag....)
The Series_index is unique. Manage Series PI or Import List PI to manage the SAME Series ordering

BTW Your ADD template (field order) must match the filename convention being imported so it plus the pieces into the correct slots.

For the most part, NOT using the filename for books WITH internal metadata usually is the best results. as always: GIGO

Would this also work:
Exporting these books to any place on the disc, deleting them in Calibre and re-importing them using the metadata of the book?
