Just Loaded 9000 books on my K5
I always had an issue with the amount of books I had on my kindles (I have had every one, except the last 2). I bought the K5 because it had blue shade, because I didn't like the lower light on the paperwhite.
I don't use the kindle app (the book app on the Fire) for anything, because it doesn't work with Calibre. So, I got a 128 GB SD card, and loaded everything I hadn't read onto it. And I access books through Calibre Companion. I found you can get the covers much larger, and it makes it really easy to browse for another book. And you can search by tag or author or date. I plan to sort by date read, so the books I have started to read are at the top. I remember to set a book mark before I set the K5 down at night. Rather than have to add books to collections, I just add them and the tags will sort them. Now I remember why I spent all that time getting my tags right! Not only do I have all my books on my SD card (another backup, aside from 2 computers and dropbox), but the ability to search for the next book without having to go down and power up Calibre means those older books will have a chance! Try Calibre Companion on your K5. It really works great! |

Is the K5 the $49 Fire? I have a similar set up on my 8" Fire HD. But not that many. Only 3300 on my card. I use the kindle app on this fire, too. First time I've liked it.

Yes. I bought it because of blue shade. And the SD card. I was able to get all the books for only 10 GB. Funny, because it took 60 GB at Dropbox. But everything works fine, except for TPZ. And I have enough to read, I don't need those.

Geee my collection is tiny 1400+ I keep them on the Main HD as someone said you couldn't read them on the SDCard.... you could only read the books on the device itself.

One of the most useful apps out there for readers with Android based devices IMO. I wish there was something similar for iOS.
That's true (AFIAK it's still true) for Amazon books using the built in reader app. However if one is sideloading and using a different reading app the books can be stored on the card just fine. |

I have all my books, in epub format, on my SD card. I just use the File Explorer to find them and click on one to open it in Aldiko. I have them all filed in collections, by series, so they're easy to find when I want them. |

I just read everything on CC. All my books are right there. I just tap on one, and then tap read, and I am good to go. If I started it and then stopped, I can tap bookmark, and go back to where I was last. Just make sure to change where the CC stores books to your SD card.
I used Calibre to load all the books on, but I am having trouble getting Calibre to manage my Fire now that I have all these books on there. Oh well, I just use content server to add new books, and then I mark them read in Calibre. |

So you use Calibre Companion on the K5, with all the books on the SD card? I always thought CC was used to connect your Android device to your computer, and I never wanted to leave my computer (laptop) running 24 hours a day.

CC can also be used to connect to Calibre's content server, but that's only one method. Others are wireless device connection (what I use) and cloud which comes in handy if your library is in DropBox or some other cloud. |

Do not need to search with File Explorer. Just make sure CC is set to the SD card, and you will be good to go. |

I tried my Baen Library on my sister's new Fire5 using CalibreCompanion. It goes right on the SD card and works quite nicely. Of course, this was the SMALL library only about 200 books, but she's able to test it since the tags and metadata are complete.
When I tried to send a book wirelessly, the SD card was greyed out. It would only let me send it to the main memory. I can only get it on the SD card when connected directly to computer. Is there an option that I have not selected? |

In settings, storage for the CC can be set to the SD card. You can always connect via content server, but I wonder why Calibre wouldn't see the SD card. I downloaded a couple books via content server, then hooked up to Calibre and downloaded all 9000 to the SD card. As I indicated, mine won't connect to Calibre anymore. So any new books, I need to add via content server.

I have a problem... As I said I only DL to the Main HD. But now for some reason ALL of my Calibre Side Loads are going on to the SDCard! How do I get them on the Main HD so I can read them. This is happening even tho I have Send to SCCard turned Off.
