				Feature Request: Multi-Language Spell Check

			Feature

One of the advantages of Calibre's Spell Check dialog compared to Sigil's is having a Language column along with the list of individual words (based on the EPUB's overall language + HTML lang + xml:lang). Sigil: Calibre: Basic Sample Code Code:
<p>This is an example Spanish sentence: <span xml:lang="es">No señora, no estoy borracho</span>.</p> <p>This is an example English sentence: <span xml:lang="en">No Ma’am, I’m not drunk</span>.</p> Why It Is Important Working with multi-language books, words may be correct in one language but wrong in another + quite often there are overlapping words ("No" in Spanish =/= "No" in English). Currently in Sigil, they appear in the list mashed together. Helpful Side Functionality It would be nice to be being able to double click on a word in a language and only jump to the position of the word in that specific language. I submitted a Calibre Bug Report + details in this thread: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho....php?p=3323463 Side Note Having Language in the Spell Check dialog was just one of those things that I previously thought was a teeny advantage in Calibre's favor, until I worked on a large book with thoroughly marked lang attributes. I suspect this case is relatively rare, but Calibre's Spell Check was very beneficial compared to my preferred tool (Sigil).

Sigil's interface to the hunspell Spellchecker is now limited to one dictionary at a time. This would take significant work to change this. I will think about this as it is not high priority at the moment given the many pieces of epub3 still yet to support.

That said, the spellcheck interface/hunspell is available to plugins and so someone might be able to pull together a multi-language spellcheck plugin if they were interested. Thanks for the feature request. KevinH |

I have asked for this for about a year ago,

( https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=265354 ) but it seems to be very difficult to add multi-dictionaries support to the Sigil. So maybe you can do it in another way? And even may be really in a more interesting way. ![]() For example, like this. Add new feature to Sigil – a possibility to perform not “full”/“all-over” spell-check (as Sigil make spell-check now – in the text inside every HTML tag), but “specific”/“partial”/“targeted” check-spell – in some HTML tags. Only in tags with attribute xml:lang with especial value. According to the dictionary selected on Preferences, eg. If the dictionary “en_US” is selected – do spell-check of text inside HTML tags with xml:lang="en_US" only etc. Or do full spell-check, just like now... What do you think about a feature like this? |

Actually, varlog is attempting to implement this feature and is using a Sigil forum thread to "blog" about his efforts. See the Spellsingers Blog thread.
