Stupid Mobipocket creator question
Just downloaded the latest 4.7 ver of this, to convert Word .doc files to send directly to the Kindle. I'm obviously missing something simple, as can't figure out from any of the menus how to do this.
On the home page, there is an "Import Existing File" with a choice of HTML, Word or Text. If I hit "Word" go to Chose a File, and put in the file I want and the folder destination, all I get is an error message "Import Failed" under a heading of "Microsoft Internet Explorer." What the hell? There does not seem to be away to change a document into one for the K, so how does that work, anyhoo? I did read the help files but did not find a conversion method. |

Do you have MS Word installed on your PC? MobiPocket Creator (and Reader) use MS Word in the conversion process for DOC files.
A work around is to export the file as HTML from your word processor (e.g. OpenOffice) and import the HTML. Note that MobiPocket Reader also imports DOC. It uses essentially the same process as Creator, but without the customization options. It has also been updated more recently, but DOC importing probably has not been changed since the Creator version. |

I think I ran into the same problem as KlondikeGeoff and did the same workaround as wallcraft. I got the weird error with Word file, went MMMM?, and then decided to try importing HTML.

What version of Word are you using? I'm using Mobipocket Creator Publisher Edition 4.2 Build 35 and I just imported a Word 2003 file with no problem. Could it be that you are using Word 2007 and it doesn't work with that version's format of DOC?

The HTML works just fine, and is quicker and easier than using Amazon's email. Big help, appreciate the suggestions. |
