Updating a virtual library by adding more authors

I want to have a virtual library that duplicates the contents of my ereader. It seemed easiest to create a virtual library by specifying which authors were contained. I created the virtual library easily but now I want to update it by adding some more authors.

I can't find an easy way to do this. If I edit the existing virtual library, it is not clear how to add additional authors. I was hoping in the edit screen I could click on the Author's link at the bottom and the author list would appear with my current authors pre-selected; but alas that does not happen.

I am sure others have done the same kind of thing -- what is the correct technique?

Not sure if this can be done in a single step (or using a VL )
VL's are based upon preset criteria
When you edit inside a VL, you only see books that match. It is possible to remove/change a value that may later disqualify VL membership list (refresh is not automatic. It needs a trigger event)

I don't see a way to tag all authors that have ondevice:true for one or more books

Quickview will show all books (if in All Books view or current VL) for a selected author (that is shown with a ondevice tick).
But I am at a loss on how to SAVE those

Try the Reading List plugin. With this, you can create lists of books. The books can be added manually, by a search or from the device. A list can be created that will update automatically when the device is connected. When the device is not connected, the list can be used to see what is on the device.
