The Secret of Isobel Key by Jen McConnel is the 1st novel in her Isobel Key series of New Adult timeline-hopping supernatural investigative fantasy (possibly with f/m romantic elements, although the spoilery blurb for sequel to this does not incline in the direction of short-term HEA) centred around the mysterious history of the eponymous accused 17th century Scottish witch, this installment setting up the recent college graduate and the historian who begin looking into her past, which apparently appears in flashbacks throughout the novel, and discover unsettling things about themselves as well as her, free courtesy of publisher Bloomsbury USA's Spark imprint.
This is Barnes & Noble's featured Free Fridays selection for the weekend, and is billed as being suitable for readers of all ages. Currently free, probably just through the weekend @ B&N. This looks to be another one of B&N's recent promo exclusives, but price-drop-check linkage for Amazon, Kobo & iTunes, where this seems most likely to show up, if it does at all. Description Lou is in the middle of a quarter-life crisis. Fresh out of college, she's unemployed and unsure of herself. But when she gets the chance to escape to Scotland with her best friend, it could be the answer to her quest for self-discovery. The trip is not at all what she expected, especially when her tour guide turns out to be the dreamy historian Brian, and together they embark on a hunt for information about Isobel Key, a woman accused of witchcraft in the seventeenth century. They set out to learn the truth of the condemned witch, but Lou isn't prepared for the knowledge that awaits her. She must face her own demons if she has any hope of righting the wrongs of the past. Flashing between the seventeenth century and modern day Scotland, THE SECRET OF ISOBEL KEY is a mystery that will please readers of all ages. |
