Cannot get PDF Tags from content server
Thank you for the excellent ebook management software.
I have Calibre 64 2.59 installed on Windows 7. Recently I tried to use content server to do some remote ebook access. I have input a lot of information into the "Tags" field. Unfortunately "Tags" is missing from PDF get from content server. I tried save to disk with OPF and cover turned off and Update metadata in saved copies enabled. The PDF saved have all the information including the Tags. I have read most of the "PDF missing tags", "PDF missing metadata" thread in this forum some said PDF metadata is tricky to deal with, some said Calibre will save all metadata when 1) save to disk, 2) send to device 3) get from content server. I really hope Tags information can be preserve when get PDF from content server, otherwise the only solution I can think of is move all Tags info to Authors field. Because beside Title, Authors is the only field that has data in it. Thank you. |

The content server does not update metadata in PDF when serving as this is a slow/expensive operation. Instead use the Embed metadata tool in calibre to insert the metadata into the PDF files beforehand.

Thank you Sir,
It works, it takes some time to embed metadata of 50 books and I have thousand of PDF's metadata need to embed, I hope it won't freeze the program. But I will keep adding new PDF to Calibre and modify some tags of existing PDF. How can I filter out those new PDF or modified PDF that need to have the "Embed metadata" tool apply again? One way I can think of is using the modified date. |

Calibre's #date_modified column is the most recent date and time that the book's data was changed in the metadata database, changes can happen via indirect and not immediately obvious actions. It is NOT the file system Modified Date. BR |

Thank you for your advice BetterRed,
a Tag value is a solution too. If I lost track or forgot to turn the Tag value off after editing Tags, I will use the modified date. If modified date also mess up, I will embed metadata to all book again. It took about 10 minutes for 1000 books. |
