Can't Download Books from Cloud using CC Demo

Recently, a problem occurred while I was using Calibre Companion Demo. Every time I try to download a book, the error "Cannot save book "title of book" to device memory". I've tried it with both my galaxy tab 3 at android 4.4 and galaxy s5 android 5.0 to no avail. I'm using my dropbox as the cloud service and my calibre in my pc is up to date, and the memory of both my phone and it's memory card has enough space for a single book, same goes with my tablet.. Any help would be appreciated.

If you are using an SD card and if your devices were recently updated, see our FAQ How do I use an SD card with Android 4.4 (Kitkat) or later?.

If that doesn't help, please send a CC debug log. See How do I get help? for instructions. Please erase the multipie.co.uk address.

That is a calibre debug log. I need a CC debug log. The instructions for sending a CC debug log are in the FAQ answer mentioned in post #2.

That debug log says that Dropbox is telling CC that the book file does not exist. Since I don't have access to your dropbox I can't know if this is true or not.

I will send you by PM the path to the book file that CC is using. Could you verify that the book file exists and that the path to the book file is character-by-character identical with the one in the PM?

I am slightly concerned by the existence of the '#' in the file name. That is a special character. CC converts it to the correct encoded equivalent. However, it might be that dropbox insists that the character be unencoded. I need to do some tests for this.

@desperado: I tested using a # character in the file name in a calibre library in dropbox. CC had no problems with it, so that isn't the root cause of what you are seeing.

ok, can you send me the book path here? I'm not really sure what's wrong. The books I'm trying to download are in my dropbox. I even tried downloading a book I previously downloaded, but it didn't work.

Edit: It seems the particular series I am trying to download is not downloading. i just updated calibre companion and it worked for other books. I'll try to remove the series from calibre and re-add them

I think I saw what the problem is. What I have in dropbox is only the metadata and not the book itself. I will have to add the book itself to fix this. Thank you for all the help

That tells me that dropbox doesn't contain the actual calibre library. If the library were in dropbox then all the book files would be there too.

Are you hand-making a separate copy of your library that you sync to dropbox? Perhaps you are using some kind of sync program to keep the copy in dropbox up-to-date, and that program isn't copying the books?

EDIT: Another thought: the library might be damaged. Run calibre's check library command to see if things are as they should be (Library / Library maintenance / Check library).

As has been noted innumerable times, it's a really, really bad idea to keep a Calibre library in Dropbox or any other Cloud service. Calibre is not "network safe" and it's a matter of when rather than if your library will be damaged.
