ascm to device, authorize through guest computer's ADE?

When I'm travelling or don't have access to my computer with my own ADE account I would still like to be able to borrow books from the public library and trnasfer to my device.

Have anyone tried to download ascm files to device and then authorize them through a ADE on different computer? Since ADE can't be used on device and I can't have ADE on my phone to borrow and authorize myself.

If there is ADE on another person's computer, can I log in to my ADE account and authorize the ascm file to get the book. Or do I have to autorize my device to that person's ADE account? If I download to other person's computer and authorize through their account, I can't read it on my device, since the device is authorized to my account.

I'm also looking for a possibility to put ADE on a Samsung Galaxy S2 through some workaround. As now it says it's not compatible.

The device and ADE must be authorized to the same Adobe ID.

I don't know if downloading to your S2 using one of the ADE based reading apps (Aldiko, BlueFire, Bookari [formerly Mantano]) and then copying the book file from your S2 to your Kobo will work or not, but as long as they use the same ID it should in theory.

I believe Bluefire at least is capable of opening an ACSM license file and downloading the EPUB from the library's Content Server. So you shouldn't need to touch ADE at all.

What I did recently when my PC developed a H/W issue was to create a new Windows account on my wife's PC, and then register my existing ADE account on her PC using my Windows logon ID. I was also able to restore my calibre library from backups, again to my new Windows logon ID.

It worked halfway...

I tried Aldiko app on my phone, downloaded the ascm file to the phone and opened it in Aldiko, which then downloaded the actual book and authorized it nicely. I could then read it in the phone.

I then copied it to the kobo device (through a computer), but couldn't open it in the divice. Kobo said it couldn't be authorized. That's strange, since I use the same Adobe ID (email) on the ADE on my computer as through Aldiko on my phone. And my device is authorized through my Adobe ID on the ADE on my computer.

Shouldn't it be possible to open the book even on the device, if both the phone and computer use the same ADE ID, since the device is authorized is authorized through the same ADE ID? Very strange. Or isn't the same email the actual same account? I thought so. Only password differ for Adobe and Aldiko.

When travelling, it is sometimes not possible to use a computer with ADE installed. But if there is, is it possible to either change the ADE account temporary to match my device or have my kobo device authorized towards two different ADE?

Sometimes people don't want one to install or change things on their computer. So that's why I would like to be able to do everything through my phone at least. Since both phone and device are slave plug and play, I need to make it possible for my phone to act as Master to enable the device to be connected to and recognized by the phone. There are som workarounds for this purpose, but it takes som rooting and changing. But before that, I want the authorizing issue to work.

Assuming the Adobe ID is the same, the book should be readable on any other device or computer.

But be warned, that some apps use their own account information, and link that to a custom Adobe ID generated by their system.
I haven't really used ADE-enabled Android apps much, so I cannot be sure. But ISTR that the OverDrive app does exactly that, and it is possible Aldiko does the same. Double-check to make sure.

Okej, so what you mean is that I so to speak log in to the third party account and then they authorize it through their ADE account? Then it makes sense that it doesn't work.

Anyone know any third party apps that let me authorize through my own ADE account?

Will also try some other apps as well to see if they behave differently

It could also depend on the "status" of the book. I use the same ADE installation (and, of course, the same Adobe ID) to dowload borrowed books from the local library and purchased books with Adobe DRM from a number of different shops. Whenever I sideload (USB/WiFi) a purchased book to my Kobo Glo HD (which is authorized with the same Adobe ID), I can read it. However, that never works for me with borrowed books. I always have to transfer them with ADE (this seems to generate a unique hash that's saved to activation.xml on my Kobo).
Almost the same happens with my old Sony PRS-T1. Side-loading of purchased books works but not for borrowed books. Since the PRS-T1 is not recognized by ADE, I have to download the ACSM file with the PRS-T1's web browser before I can read it on the Sony.
Purchased books downloaded to the PRS-T1 can be copied and used on the Kobo, but borrowed books are not authorized.

That's rather bizarre. I can't imagine why such a hash would be needed or what is so special about loans.
Besides, what would NGP+ owners do, since since ADE cannot recognize them?

The hash probably includes information about the loan duration.

Not to mention, it makes no sense to not embed that information in the encrypted EPUB itself.

Sorry, but didn't taos just say you couldn't? Or at least taos couldn't? And mentioned two different ereaders that it didn't work for.

Personally, I have no idea how it works. I have never borrowed a book vie ADE, so have never looked into. I was simply proposing the possibility that came to my mind when it was mentioned. But, a reason to supply it separately would be so that the full file didn't have to be unpacked to get the information. Plus it could be used as a validation mechanism (need both bits of info and they have to be consistent).

I don't know if you can copy it from one ADE install to another - I only have one installation of ADE (2.x). Might work with older/newer versions.

I could replicate the other information (date and time, user uuid, library uuid, url for license server, ...) for a borrowed book needed in activation.xml (either by comparing it with xml files that were stored by ADE on my computer or from other loaned books with entries in the file) apart from one: some hash (or better: accumulation of more or less arbitrary ASCII characters) in "signature" tags. Without it, my Kobo wouldn't open the file. I can't remember if the PRS-T1 uses a similar approach. When I copied the original signature back into the activation.xml, I could open the book again. So, I assumed it might be necessary for the authorization process and gave up.
I'm not sure if all libraries do this in the same way. My local library does not use Overdrive but Onleihe to provide its service. It's even possible that side-loading used to work on the PRS-T1 before they introduced the possibility to "hand in" a borrowed book before the end of the loan period some time ago.
