A Belated Intro

Hi all!

As you may have noticed

I am not exactly new around here. But recently I noticed it has come on to my second anniversary as a MobileRead member (like, today

), and I realize I have never actually introduced myself. (How terribly rude.

)

So here it is.

I am a college-age guy, passionately Jewish, very into books ever since I was about three.

I got a Kindle as a gift a few years ago, and quickly found my way to MobileRead when I needed help, as so many do. Can't for the life of me remember what that might have been, though. (On which note, I cannot track down my first post, the forum search is only equipped to find a max 500 posts. A reward is offered to whoever finds it for me -- how does karma sound?

)

Stayed ever since, for the atmosphere and because I decided to help pass on the love. You can find me very active in the calibre and Kindle forums, where I answer questions and offer what guidance I can.

I mostly read Fantasy/Sci-Fi, and my favorite authors are Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams, Jim Butcher (see my sig for the Dresden Files fan thread), a few others (I cannot make up my mind

), and Patricia C. Wrede. That last one is maybe a bit of a surprise; she wrote an amazing series called The Enchanted Forest Chronicles which turns the classic fairy tales on their head and kind of sums up my secret belief about the real way those stories must've gone. Also, in theme with Pratchett humor.

Books are not my only interest, I have a fascination with computers and linux as well. My 11-year-old laptop actually runs Arch Linux, a build-it-yourself linux distro that I have more or less set up perfectly for my needs. calibre is quite snappy on it (as opposed to not running at all under XP).
And naturally, I run all the latest calibre development code, so I don't have to wait for the weekly updates.

I also wrote the official sticky on automatically updating calibre on linux.

Now THAT'S an introduction, and a very nice one too.

All these new members joining Mobileread should treat your post as required reading "Intro 101." (If it was within my power, I would make it mandatory reading when they join.)

In the search mask, just change "descending" to "ascending".

Welcome to the forums, eschwartz. Since you seem to be into Calibre, I am sure you wil be delighted to find that we have a dedicated Calibre sub-forum. And I think the Dresden Files have their own thread. There's also a long-running fun thread in the Lounge, called Four-Words Post Story. I have a hunch you might enjoy that one too.
