Dictionaries vs. text to speech
Hi!
I've bought and downloaded three Collins dictionaries for my Kindle Keyboard and each of the book descriptions says: text to speech is enabled. Though when I open the books, text to speech is not available for any of them. Why? Actually, what does it depend on that an ebook is text to speech compatible or not? Though when I just sideloaded an ebook, the text to speech is available for that too. Why? |

TTS is a feature that publishers may restrict (if you get it from Kindle Store). But in this case it appears they have not done that.
Are these English dictionaries, or translation dictionaries? Kindle Keyboard TTS only supports English. The TTS will not read pop up definitions, but if you open the dictionary itself it 'should' read that if it is English. |

@natamas: Download Java Mobi Metadata Editor, open one of the dictionaries with it and look for the following entry:
404 {1} If it's present, delete it. |

What do those numbers mean?
Can you tell me how to enable the font changing option? Because I have another book with special publisher fonts but I can't change the fonts to other types. |

I haven't used the Mobi Metadata Editor in a while and thought that binary options had {0} and {1} values, when they're actually displayed as check boxes.
It looks like TTS is actually enabled for your dictionary. You could delete the entry with the - button, but it probably won't make a difference. They're EXTH metadata records. Unfortunately, I can't help you with that. |

Set its value to: {0} rather than blank. And then if that does not work, set its value to: {1} That label reads as if the value was "negative logic", which would be unusual, so try both settings since the sense of the label may be a typo. Last edited by knc1; 08-30-2017 at 09:11 AM. |

The program behaves a bit strangely.
If I want to add whatever value the program only allows me to change the checkbox state. If I add a new field with {0} or {1} (it doesn't matter) it creates an entry with 404 with an unticked checkbox. So I suspect only the checkbox can be used to change the tts state. |

Not to add a new field, to change the existing field that you highlighted in the snapshot. You only mention the '-' button, what does the '+' button do? Last edited by knc1; 08-30-2017 at 10:03 AM. |

![]() You and Doitsu said that the property is about TTS off. So, 1 means (checkbox ticked) TTS is off and 0 means (checkbox unticked) TTS is on. The default state is unticked. So if I wanna turn it on, I should keep it unticked, shouldn't I? |

Actually there is a lot of space between the left edge of the Value column and the square of the checkbox. But when you click on the rectangular area of that field it will only tick the checkbox. Clicking again: untick.
The weird thing about that field is that the checkbox itself is exactly in the middle of the field. (same distance from the left and right edge of the Value column) Is that clear now? |
