Free (Kindle) The River Between [1860s Alabama Steamboat Family Faith Saga w/Romance]

The River Between by the late Jacquelyn Cook (obituary, profile at a book blogging site which includes her awards) is the 1st in her The River Series of old-school historical Civil War-era Alabama river-set multi-generational family saga novels with strong f/m romantic elements and faith exploration themes, this installment setting up the family with the privileged heroine's struggle between her duty towards her family's choice of husband and the steamboat captain who appeals to her heart, free courtesy of Southern specialty publisher Bell Bridge Books, who are e-printing it in an updated edition from its original 1985 release from HarperCollins' dedicated Christian imprint Zondervan.

Although the early installments in this series originally came out from a Christian imprint, these novels may have been revised, the author also wrote apparently well-researched secular historical and historical romance novels (some of which we've previously received as freebies in the past, in both categories, including one of the award-winning ones, and which you may have enjoyed reading) and some of the reader reviews indicate that further installments in the series involved frictions between mixed Christian and non-Christian marriages, so YMMV as to the prominence and directionality of the current level of spiritual content.

Currently free @ Amazon (available to Canadians & in the UK). Sometimes these also show up free @ Kobo (geo-restricted to the US, it looks like), iTunes, and/or Google Play in assorted regions, so price-drop-check linkage for your convenience.

Description
The river brought a handsome stranger to her. Would the river also take him away?

From her Alabama mansion on the banks of the Chattahoochee River, Lily watches the steamboats pass and dreams of falling in love with the perfect man, giving him her whole mind and spirit. But when the river gives her an irresistible steamboat captain, Lily is torn between him and her pledge to marry the wealthy man her parents have chosen for her. Torn by her love for the mysterious captain, she struggles with duty, honor and faith. Like the river's dangerous currents, her choice will change the course of her life forever.

Jacquelyn Cook is the author of acclaimed historical novels and historical romances, with over 500,000 copies sold. Her classic, four-book River series authentically recreates the romance and drama of the Civil War era in historic Eufaula, Alabama. Formerly collected in a popular anthology titled Magnolias, the River series is now offered to readers in these updated editions.
