Goodreads Deals

Goodreads has gotten into the daily ebook deal notification business. It looks like they'll notify you if a book on your Want To Read shelf has a price drop and/or they'll send you a daily email for any or all of the following genres:

• Bestsellers
• Romance
• Mystery & Thrillers
• Fantasy & Sci-fi

with more genres to come. Right now it's for US members only, and you can select to watch prices at Kindle Store, Apple iBooks, B&N, Google Play and/or Kobo.

Just say you are from USA in the settings. That is what I did to test it.

I doubt that Amazon/Goodreads cares where you are, but the only stores they are currently price checking are in the US.

My Want To Read shelf is unread books I already own, my Wishlist shelf would be more appropriate for deals.

But I'm in the UK and I use ereaderiq.

It's not automatic, or if it is, you can easily disable it. From the comments there, there are requests to create a shelf just for deals instead of using the want to read shelf, and also a deals page so that instead of getting an email, you can go check it on goodreads instead of getting an email. Whether they will implement those suggestions, who knows.

My first email for fantasy/sf deals was I think one Amazon exclusive (Hugh Howie), and 7-8 ebooks on sale everywhere, and the books were on sale 1-4 days.

It isn't spam if you sign up for it and want it, and I would love to be alerted when the price drops on a book I want.

People is complaining because you don't sign up for it, goodreads enrolls you and you have to opt out.

I thought you had to enroll in it. That was the impression I had from the e-mail I received from GR. I signed up because I already get similar e-mails from BookBub and Riffle. A lot of the books aren't great but some are good deals.

Sounds a little redundant with Amazon's wishlists, just depending on which service you use more.

Oh. my. gosh. am I ever glad I only have 43 books in my Goodreads to-read list! I own almost all of them so price reductions make no nevermind to me, but I'm just so relieved that I won't be inundated with spam as those with to-read lists in the thousands will be!

I have 152 titles in my "to-read" category and have yet to receive an email.

you can mark books in your to-read as owned. maybe this would make a difference.

Meh, is spam really an issue anymore? My gmail accounts catch pretty much all unsolicited stuff in the spam folder and any promotions from sites I actually use get sent to the "Promotions" tab where I don't need to look at them unless I choose. If I want to see every email from a site, I move it back to the inbox and Google asks me if I want the site's messages to go there from now on, and I say "Yes." Zero agitation.
