Exclude Virtual Library
Probably a simple answer. How can I exclude virtual libraries from view?
I am really trying to keep all my non archived books in one library. I don't want to see every book at once. I want to be able to exclude specific libraries from the normal view. An example would be that i don't need to see every Paranormal Romance book I have, or every book I have already read, but may re-read in the future. Normally I would just create libraries and send them there. However, for GR syncing and keeping consistency between the libraries, I want to keep them all in one place. SO.....is there a way to exclude multiple libraries from a view? |

What do you mean "show only" or "all except" ? Should I do a search? I understand the idea of showing only...or all except...but how to do I get to that option? I am not sure what you are suggesting..

So, make you search show what you want as a VL, then save it Then Create a (named) VL from it, Add that same name to Behavior 'Hide' = Not tags:Adults Only ![]() |

Ok....God I HATE VL's... they require me to understand search expressions....is it possible to create the VL's then save the searches used to create the VL, then use that as a restriction? no.....the restriction will show ONLY that what is restricted....
Create a VL that is from a search "not tags =" *whatever VL I am not wanting to see* This will mean standardizing all my books...ugh...too....many...booooooks......collaps ible rows would be so helpful here. Thanks for the help! Will try it. |

@Rellwood - you don't have to create saved searches, but you do have to formulate the search expressions.
You can make use of the Tag browser to create multi term searches. The Virtual library dialogue has links to assist creating searches based on Author, Tags, Series and Publishers, as well as Saved Searches if you have any. I found the Advanced Search feature useful in learn about calibre search expressions. Once you have a search expression in the search bar that does what you want then, if you create a new VL its search expression will default to what's in the search bar. All you have to do is to give it a name. BR |

@BetterRed, @Theducks
So, I know its been a minute, but insomnia had me perusing the forum for whatever information may be useful... I have become proficient in the VL tabs. Since I am sick and tired of the redundant libraries and the redundant columns, I decided to give the VL a shot. So the whole "not" tag worked best for me by using the browser. I start big and work my way in. Now instead of a ton of libraries, I have a ton of VL's. The possibilities are endless, which is a blessing and a curse. I feel like my library has gone the way of The Winchester House...but its free, and keeps me occupied. I still manage to read between three and 7 books a week, and keep up with my studies. You two have been great, thanks for your continued guidance and help. |
