I made a e-reader stand
Hello mobilereader's. I've been a Nook reader for several years. I am very lazy and love the convenience of an e-reader over holding a dead tree book open. Shortly after buying my first Nook (the one with the little color screen down below the e-ink screen) I started looking for some sort of stand to hold it while I lay in bed reading. I couldn't find anything. I don't know, there might be something on the market for this now. I am a poor (meaning not very good) drummer. I took one of my cymbal stands and figured out how to make it hold a Nook (or whatever e-reader you prefer). Very simple. I cut a piece of 2" angle iron. Welded a coupler nut onto the inside angle of it. A coupler nut is a very long nut. Works better than a standard nut for this application because it doesn't allow the bracket to rock. Spray it with some paint. Then stick some adhesive backed velcro on it. Stick the other side of the velcro to the reader. I put the fuzzy stuff on my reader so it's soft when holding it in my hands when not reading in bed. I've been using this for several years. Works great. I leave the clamp loose on the stand so I can easily swivel it out of the way when not reading. These boom type cymbal stands are very stable and not super easy to move around. By leaving the clamp loose it's super easy to swivel away. I have no intention to market this. I just wanted to show it to other e-reader readers in case somebody else wants to make one. If you don't have the means to make one of these yourself I bet you could get a person at a muffler shop to whip one up for you for a 10 spot. The cymbal stands can be found at used instrument shops for about $40. Get a stand first and take it to the hardware to find the correct thread size coupler nut. I'd be happy to make the mount for anybody in Minneapolis/St. Paul for free. You'd have to buy your own cymbal stand. Let's see if I can get some pictures to show up here.

I'm obviously no professional welder but it hasn't broken loose yet:

I made the bed frame too. Won't be building one of those again though.

I'm using a GlowLight Plus now. I don't like the sharp edges of it so I have a nice soft case on it. The velcro sticks fine to the back of that case. I just swing the cover back open and it rests on top of the angle bracket when on the stand. Works great.
I would think this type of bracket would work fine for any e-reader. And should also work for larger tablets. Maybe even an ipad? I suppose if a person was making one for an ipad or similar you might want to make it longer so you can put longer pieces of velcro on it? |

Not at all John. I don't remember how I turned the page on my first reader. I know the Simple Touch I used to use the rubber push button to turn the page. So I would squeeze that with a finger on the back of the reader. The GlowLite Plus only takes a light touch on the edge of the screen to change page. No problemo.

Inspiring project. I had been thinking something similar for long. I will try to make something like it soon. Thanks Bob86ZZ4 for the idea.

What a great idea! I need to make something for my Mom that attaches to the table next to her chair. She's getting neck and shoulder pain from looking down and needs her ereader higher up. Great thoughts!

Combined with auto-scroll and a catheter I wouldn't have to move at all!!

That Ergotron LX desk mount looks nice. But it's about $125. And you've got to have a good surface to screw it to. My stand should cost you about $40. And it will go anywhere.
