Trying to decide between Glo and Paperwhite

I've owned a Kindle Paperwhite for some time, and recently won a Kobo Glo. I'm currently trying to work out which one to use as my main device, so I have some questions about the Kobo:

Is sideloading through USB the only way to get books not from the Kobo store onto the device?

Will books not bought from Kobo sync between the device and the Android ago?

That's it for now. I may have more later

No. You could also grab your books over wifi from your Calibre content server, or put them on a cloud service and download them using the inbuilt browser.

I don't know exactly what books you want, but you can download books from Feedbooks (for one) directly on to the Glo. Just use the built-in web browser (can be painful to use, but it works).

I've never really used the calibre content server. Might have to look at that a bit more. Would I need to use the inbuilt browser to access the content server?

Mostly I'm wanting to know how to get the books I've already bought onto the Kobo.

Yes. Is there a problem with transferring by USB, or are you just wondering what the options are?

I can do it, but I find it less convenient than emailing. That said, one reason I email things to the Paperwhite is so that it syncs with the app on my phone. If sideloaded books will sync, it's less of an issue.

Also, the Glo also has an micro SD card slot (I think) that you can put books on (they won't sync with other Kobo devices/apps).

Sideloaded books won't sync reading position without third-party software (koreader).

One advantage you might find over your Kindle, given that you're in the UK, is that library e-book loans are supported on your new Kobo. I consider library loans to be a killer feature of e-readers, and outside the US, only readers supporting Adobe DRM will do.

Apparently I've got a Glo HD, which doesn't have a micro SD slot.

I'll have to look at Koreader.

I'll have to look into it. I've never really bothered with library loans of ebooks. I can borrow downloadable audio books from my local library, but they rarely have ones that I want, so I stopped looking.
