Download Meta Data Incredibly Slow
Or it doesn't work. One book took over a half minute per Calibre's own stats and another is running right now. Been going over 3 minutes and not done yet. It's been a while since I used Calibre and I encountered the problem with my existing version. I updated to 2.56 and that hasn't changed anything.
Ideas? |

I forgot to mention I'm only trying to download meta data for one book. I want to do more, but just for one book, it's slow. Also I'm using an iMac on OS Yosemite 10.10.5.

Metadata fetching speed is a function of - server responsiveness, network performance/congestion, volume of data, number of sources - not much the calibre s/w can do about any of those, you could try reducing number of sources. The first two can vary significantly over time - i.e. today it might take 2 minutes tomorrow 5 minutes, not unlike commute times in large cities.
If you want to download metadata for many books use the Bulk MD facility, it runs as a background job, whilst its chugging away you can do something else in calibre or elsewhere - even have sleep ![]() BR |

Metadata downloads (per book) are also slowed down to be NICE to the FREE server (owners). We don't want calibre banned (it has happened)

I'm running Calibre on an iMac and I select, say 25 books, hit command-d to download the meta data. I leave the computer. I'm wondering if the download continues when the iMac goes into sleep mode? I'm suspecting not. Any idea?
