Find a solution to jailbreak Kindle WP 7th with FW 5.7.4.1
Hello,
I've bought my kindle PW3 yesterday, I registered my account and then the Kindle started to upgrade to FW 5.7.4.1 ![]() I found this thread (https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=265675), but it may doesn't work with my kindle (In stage 2: applecation error, the selected application could not be started. Please try again). Is there anyone with the same problem?? Is there another way to jailbreak it? Thank you so much. Last edited by tuan8927; 05-11-2016 at 11:25 AM. |

Use this chart: https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Kindle_Serial_Numbers and the first 6 characters of your device's serial number to determine its nickname (marketing names vary over time and geography). = = = In answer to your question - Yes See the 'sticky' thread about jailbreaking over the serial port. The jailbreak procedure you tried was for FW 5.6.5 only. Did your upgrade complete? What firmware version did it have BEFORE the upgrade? At this point, you might be limited to jailbreaking it by attaching wires to the internal serial port (as knc1 said, referring to this thread) -- not for the timid, but not difficult if you have any soldering experience (and some have used pins and tape and foam instead, to attach to the serial port pads).

Not sure if a factory reset reverts back to 5.6.5 - you may try this.
I connected my PW3 to internet usually just some minutes with an external 3G hotspot and I'm still on 5.6.5. |

EDIT: And some amazon firmware updates are now actively preventing what they are calling a "firmware downgrade attack". Umm, wait a minute -- they are attacking our rights of personal ownership, so why would they call our efforts to thwart their attacks an "attack"? It can only make sense to ambulance-chasing attorneys and penny-pinching bean counters, IMHO... Last edited by geekmaster; 05-11-2016 at 12:16 PM. |

Anyway, I'm not good at jailbreak by serial so I can wait for a new solution in the future. (I must turn on aeroplane mode all the time to avoid it upragading) Last edited by tuan8927; 05-11-2016 at 12:45 PM. |

Factory reset turns the radio back on. Be sure to set airplane mode quickly after a factory reset, or by the time there is a USB-only jailbreak for 5.7.4.1 you may be running something even newer that is not jailbreak-ready.

In the top level of visible USB storage, add the directory (that is, a folder) by this (exact) name: update.bin.tmp.partial Inside that new directory, add something, anything, even an empty file. |

there is no way to jailbreak FW 5.7.4.1 without soldering stuff at this moment. we need a way to either downgrade FW 5.7.4.1 to FW 5.6.5 or a hack like FW 5.6.5 Jailbreak release for FW 5.7.4.1.

That doesn't mean they can generically target all Kindles to delete a specific folder in a nonstandard location. ... That being said, it is true that specific firmware revisions have learned to defeat that trick. Note: Amazon had to incorporate the workaround in a new firmware release -- which implies the chicken-and-egg problem. ![]() |

2) Yes, this is not proof against being over-ridden. In fact, some firmware's can defeat it, most can't. 3) Since it depends on the firmware version **installed** (not the firmware version to be installed) - we find people willing to test this for each version. They make this file addition and then intentionally expose their Kindle to the OTA update process. No chance of needing soldering skills, the worst that can happen is the Kindle will OTA update. So the testing is done by people who are intending to update (later) anyway but are willing to give this a try for a period of time. You want to see your Kindle really get its panties in a bunch? Put a directory named: testWrite.txt in the highest level of visible USB storage. Then watch the logs (;dm). No chance of needing soldering skills for that one either - - The system is built to survive not having a writable /mnt/us/* It is just that it doesn't like it very much. ![]() Last edited by knc1; 05-11-2016 at 08:24 PM. |
