Newbie question - hot to get files into device

Hi
This may seem obvious to you but I noticed recently that I don't know what procedures are there to upload files into the device.
At the moment I'm trying to choose between Kobo Glo HD and Pocketbook 626 Touch Lux 3 to be my first e-reader.
I always thought that all I have to do in order to get files in to the device is to plug-in USB and drag&drop because it will be recognized as a USB flash memory (like pendrive) or at least connected with MTP. I also thought that I would use WiFi to sync files with my local server where I would keep my files by using some app (FTP, Samba, owncloud etc.). Is this even possible? Because if not then what's the point of having WiFi when I won't use built-in services and I will buy books from local dealers not through built-in shop.

Slow down. Breathe.
Hi. First you are talking about sideloading. Now I know on my old Kobo, I just attached it to the computer and used the send to right click function.
I think most ereaders have wifi but you do not have to turn it on.
For questions about those two devices:

(Speaking of Kobo, I don't have a Pocketbook device): can send your files to your device a variety of ways.
- You can buy books from Kobo, and sync them directly via wifi.
- You can sideload books via a USB cable: from Adobe Digital Editions (eg for library books), via drag and drop, or from Calibre (which allows you a lot of finetuning, collections management, and so on).
- Or you can use wifi to get books onto your device from Calibre, using the Calibre Content Server function. You don't need to use all of these, they're just your options.

Wifi is useful to grab your articles from Pocket, to sync books from Kobo, to get books from the Calibre content server, to update your firmware, or to use the inbuilt browser (eg to get a book from Project Gutenberg or your Dropbox). But feel free to turn it off, if you like. Your choice.

Thanks both of you. Now I know that my concerns were at least a little bit exaggerated. I've seen this Calibre app and noticed that there is server version of it so probably it would be enough for me.
