Those Brontë women

There's an interesting article on the BBC website today about the Brontë sisters, their heroines and their influence.

I haven't read either Wuthering Heights or Jane Eyre in decades after compulsively reading and rereading them in my adolescence, but I was always a Cathy fan instead of Jane. However, I finally read Villette only last year, when it made my ten-best list, and Lucy Snowe is definitely a contender.

The author links the Brontë women to contemporary protagonists, for good or ill. I'm not sure I agree that Katniss Everdene is a deathless character, but she makes a case for it. Overall, a fun and provocative article, even if the author is obviously shilling for an upcoming biography of Anne.

Just found this thread and read the article. Thanks for the link, and also the comment on Villette. I must get onto it.

I have recently downloaded a Delphi classic "Masters of Gothic Horror"

I was quite surprised to find "Wuthering Heights" together with such titles as "Dracula" , "Frankenstein" and others of that kind.
