Vampires being allergic to sunlight is not canon. For instance, Count Dracula was weakened by sunlight but he didn't go up in smoke and flames. From the 1840s, Varney the Vampire was not affected by sunlight though preferring the night.

So be careful, my friend. Be very, very careful...

I think they are extreme albinos and thus dye hair, coloured contact lenses and excessive sunblock that makes them very pale.
Carmila and Lilith weren't stopped by daylight.

I don't believe crosses and holy water are any use. Those are modern compared to vampires.
