Amazon first quarter sales up 28%
This is a huge increases for a company that was already at a quarterly rate of 22.7 billion. Also,
“Amazon devices are the top selling products on Amazon, and customers purchased more than twice as many Fire tablets than first quarter last year,” said Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon.com.

And they've sporadically reported quarterly profits before. Usually by accident. Once to make the point to investors they could report profits if they reduced their investing in new businesses.

The difference this time is that AWS and merchant services and (presumably) house brand electronics are churning out much more money than even Bezos can properly invest.

I'm sure he's evaluating all sorts of added investment (and acquisition) options but they're not yet making enough money to adopt Google's dartboard investment strategies.

For now they'll just have to suffer the hit to their reputation.
