Help! Nook Glowlight Plus Formatting Issues

Hello, all. New user, first time poster.

B&N has been utterly unhelpful with this, and now that they've moved their Nook tech support overseas, I'm despairing of ever getting an answer, so I'm hoping some more technically minded users might be able to advise me here.

I have a Nook Glowlight Plus as well as a Nook Glowlight, and the two are displaying the same ebook files (both side-loaded and those purchased from the Nook store) in different ways. Specifically, the Glowlight plus is eliminating/ignoring the blank lines between different scenes in the same chapter, even though the Glowlight has no problem rendering these scene breaks. This results in many books that have multiple, fast scene breaks per chapter, such as thrillers, being very confusing and difficult to read on the Glowlight plus. The Glowlight Plus also inserts almost negligible paragraph breaks when it renders e-books, which can make it difficult to tell when a new paragraph is starting. On some sideloaded epub files, interestingly enough, the paragraph breaks are much more clear, but unless the sideloaded file inserts some sort of graphic in between scene breaks to indicate the break, the device is still eliminating the lines breaks between scenes (again, not the case on the Glowlight). This is true on the Glowlight Plus regardless of font, line spacing, and margin settings, including publisher defaults. In terms of physical quality and screen resolution, however, (as well as waterproofing), the Glowlight Plus is the superior device.

Bearing in mind that I am not a developer, nor do I have any level of developer knowledge (although I'm sure I'm competent enough to follow clear layman's technical instructions if they were provided to me), is there any way for me to fix this short of continuing my futile attempts to get B&N to release a software update? You'd think that devices that are built to do ONE THING well would be able to handle it better than this...

I'm happy to provide any additional details people want, and am very grateful for any help that can be offered. At this point, I feel I have nowhere else to turn.

As the Nook uses Android, perhaps you can root it and install an alternative ereader app? (I am sure there are clear layman's directions around wherever people go to root their Nooks, although never having owned one I don't keep track...)

Sorry but I have always gotten the impression that Nooks are best for rooting and using as something else.
Outsourcing their tech support to India is merely the latest in a long line of dropping-the-ball moments.

...

From what you say, the builtin reader software seems to have a problem rendering blank lines in any way shape or form, so the only other solution is probably to edit every single book and add visible scenebreaks. I should note that I have always preferred the following HTML instead of blank lines (graphics are okay too I guess, but blank lines are just ugly):
Code:
HTML:
<p class="scenebreak">* * *</p>

CSS:
.scenebreak {
  text-align: center;
  text-indent: 0%;
  margin: 1em;
}

It seems very strange to me that two ereaders from the same company, in successive generations, would render the same text with differences. Or that no one from B&N noticed this problem before they released the reader...

If they outsourced the jobs of the people who were supposed to notice...

The two devices run different firmware versions. I'm not sure what BN uses in particular to render their ebooks, but it seems that it's a different version in those firmware versions.

BN support wouldn't be able to help you with this since there's literally nothing they can do about it. Aside from send a note to the developers, which is now an outside company.

I'd suggest selling the GLP and getting a Kobo Glo HD if you prefer epub, or one of the Kindles if you aren't tied to epub. Both these companies have shown better judgement with the changes they have made. Personally I would go with Kobo, they have a great track record of keeping older devices supported with new versions of their firmware.

Or root your NGP and install a third party reading app.

BN hasn't given up on ebooks or ereaders yet, but they could sure fool the average person into thinking they had.
