Kobo updated, now buggy
Ok so a while ago my Kobo did an update, and since thenits been a bit buggy. Had to soft reset it twice and sometimes it tells me a book is 99% read when I'm only a couple of chapters in. This morning was the worst. It took so long to be useable again I thought it was bricked! Thankfully its back but for how long? Also I transferred a lot of books downloaded fir free from gutenberg, but when I try to read them on the Kobo I get DRM. Theyre free, public domain, and they read fine on my old Sony!
Seriously came close to flinging it out of the window today. All I wanted to do was read a book. Good old paper eh! I thought of going over to the dark side and getting a Kindle, but would it work with Calibre? And would a paperwhite be a better option than the Fire, which doubles as a tablet? My Kobo model is N905C |

Note sure about your Kobo.
Answers to your kindle questions: Yes, they can work with calibre. A Paperwhite is e-ink like your kobo. The Fire is a tablet with a kindle app. And is backlit not frontlit. Note: reading on a fire is different from reading on an e-ink. There is a kindle forum here for any other questions you may have. I have a kobo, 2 e-ink kindles and a fire. |

That really sounds like you have a corrupted database so signing out and back in is likely your best option to get it running properly again. Any chance you've unplugged it from your computer without properly ejecting the Kobo? That's often the cause of a corrupted database.

I did reset about ten times or more, I undergraded whith 3.18, then 3.17 I downloaded only 100 boks, then , then 5 I bring it back to the store and igot a new one. Back home it's exactly the same problem Is It a virus I had in somme books (Epub ?) Is it a change in the internal micoprogram ? My KOBO is a H2O |

What I noticed was the recent bout of dodgy behaviour happened after I changed the font to one of Kobos. I reset it back to the default font and so far so good.

Was the font it was misbehaving with either "Kobo Tsukushi Mincho" or "Kobo UD Kakugo"? If so, a few people have reported freezes and other problems when using these. Using one of the other fonts is the answer. My understanding is that these two fonts are mainly there to support Japanese. For European languages, the other fonts are probably better.

The next time that the Kobo stock software causes problems, and you are thinking of the "dark side", you might want to try adding KOReader and or Coolreader.
