I've noticed that they have allowed alexas to only read certain boks, others don't work, whats stops all books from working ?

Probably value for TTS flag field in mobi container/header?
Book author/publisher can request that TTS functionality be disabled (so as to "force" people to buy Audible audiobook).

Not sure if you can remote that restriction without removing the DRM first, but after deDRM you should be able to use something like Java Mobi Metadata editor to change that ext field...

yeah thats kinda terrible especially if the book has no audible version like most of the Trek Books if S&S has no interest in doing audiobook version of their Trek Loud I wish they would enable it for Alexa

Do it yourself Ethics of doing so IMO are equally questionable / justified as deDRM-ing the ebook to be able to read it on any device you own.

It's the EXTH 404 value in the mobi header.

AFAIK, the DeDRM tool will automatically set this value to 0=disabled if it exists.

From my experience it does. This was my initial reason for using the tools, for the ability to use the TTS on all books.

Amazing how much better TTS sounds these days using Ivona on an Android device than it did on the Kindle Keyboard!
