Icarus Illumina E653BK - Reset Help Request

Hello All,

New reader here... I got the Icurus Illuminia as I wanted to read my books in the Google Play store on an E-ink reader but have been having many issues trying to get it to run the app and Google Play services. For a while I have been reading thru the forums and following some suggestions (at my own risk I understand) and have seemed to render my device unusable. Currently after uploading an IMG file that was recommended my device is now in Chinese and none of the touch input appears to work when it comes up to the home screen. I have tried a few things but keep getting back to this point. Not sure if I am at the end of the road for this device or if there is light at the end of the tunnel. Anyway, thank you in advance for any suggestions you may have.

Thats "normal" behaviour if wrong displaydriver is flashed. It can be solved by flashing the right ROM. As far as I know there are 2 versions of Icarus Illumina E653BK. One is with Carta screen the other with Pearl screen. You have to determine which screen type you have and find the right ROM for it. This https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=254042 might be helpful.

Thanks nhedgehog!

That looks promising. If I did not make a backup of my original .img file am I up the river? I am not sure if I am understanding it correctly but I am under the assumption that when you use the Rockchip Batch Tool to upload a firmware you are essentially reloading the whole OS on the device, is this correct?

Thanks again!

I recommend reading the whole thread from the beginning. There are several reports in it on bricking the device by flashing the wrong firmware and how it was solved. It doesn't matter that you didn't backup the firmware but understanding what you are doing with RKBatchtool is more than needed since it could really brick the device to no point of return.
